Where do you shoot them?

If you have your choice of where you can shoot a furbearer, would you always shoot it in the head, to save the hide? I hope that wasn't a stupid question.

i choose an alternative method, that doesn't damage the hide. But i won't post it because if the anti's were reading this they could use it against us. Please be careful on any answers that you post in regard to this subject.

Last time I checked this is a hunting forum, and if the anti's dont like what they hear then they shouldn't come to the forum. I shoot predators the same as I shoot deer, behind the shoulder and through the vitals. I stay away from the should cause that will cause big holes. more times then not, the critter will fall on the spot, when you use the correct load, or load that shoots the best out of you gun and good shot placement. Plus if there is any anti's reading, this is also the most humane!!!

I perfer to hit them right on the front shoulder. Instant and clean kill, everytime!

I am pretty sure that any answer giving will be accepted, as long as it is within forum policy (remember this is a family site). That being said, I shoot for behind the front shoulder, I tried a heads on head shot once, of course I completely forgot about the 30+ mph winds blowing from left to right. No wonder I missed at 100 yards, and again and again and again..........

troutmaster was referring to dispatching an animal in a trap. It is commonly done without a firearm at all.

Oh well that makes sense then, at first I couldn't understand why shot placement was a problem but now I understand why he held his tongue. Also trout I didn't mean to be offensive in any way, i just misread your post.

To save the pelt...I never use a firearm....

And, if the animal is near or on water, you shouldn't use a firearm either.

never had a problem with the eye or ear and there are other methods as well to dispach your animals
