Ice Piks

Does anyone use them? I carried a set in the Sno Bear last year, but have never thought much of them until today. We filmed a news story today on Gull Lake and tested out Arctic Armor. We walked on the ice until we broke through, I was able to pull myself out quite easily with the piks. Sure it helped to be floating horizontal, but the piks will always be near when I am on sketchy ice. I ran them behind my neck and down each arm so they were in easy reach when I needed them. Get a set!

One other thing that I also carry along is a 50 ft Floating rope with a Buoy attached. Myself, I have a set of Pics also, but not everyone has one. You'll never know if you ever come across someone else that went thru.

I make sure that my wife, kids, and I always have a pair around our neck. Early ice I carry a floatation cushion (from the boat) with coiled rope attached and walk with a spud bar (can use as a wedge). I'm also seriously considering a Mustang Survival jacket. I fell through the ice when I was a kid and I never want to go through that experience again. Besides with cardiac issues I would rather not experience the shock of cold. MI's or AFIB isn't something that you want to experience, although getting shocked after AFIB is kind of neat.
