Snowblower Tire Chains

My JD TRS26 orginally came with chains and I "dealt" with them. (the tires on it at the time had little tread and were made to have chains on them) I finally had it with the chains last year when they were beginning to wear out and I went down to Northern Tool and picked up a set of the "sno-hog" snowblower tires. My father's snowblower had these kind of tires on them and never had troubles with traction. Since the switch, the snowblower isn't as tough to "wrestle". I even taught my wife to use it if I was ever out of town and she had no problems with handling or traction.

Forward to this winter, my brother's old ariens chains finally wore out and he was on a mission to find chains for it. He couldn't find them anywhere and after much convincing he finally bought the sno-hogs and got them mounted yesterday. (Just in time for the big snow today) Anyway, his reaction was the same. The traction is night and day with his older machine.

I'd recommend changing the tires to "sno-hog" lug type tire rather than the chains.
