So I was reading elsewhere that it is illegal to ride 2-up on a single ATV (non-2-up model).

Is this true?

What about the add on storage boxes with the backrest and seat... you can't use those either?

Can anyone confirm that they will actually write a ticket for this if my wife and I are say out on the lake, or on a state trail?

Just like you I have always thought that this was illegal, but we have one of these and when we had 2 people on the sportsman this fall and got stopped by the local CO he didn't say a word about it. This may not be a clear answer for you, at least I know if it is against the law he was leniant about it.
