FISHINGURU
i got an awesome deal on a lund boat that has a 30hp honda 4 stroke motor on it.the only bad part is he hasn't used it in 2 yrs and had it stored outside through 2 winters without it being winterized or anything.so i have a boat and motor that hasn't been ran in about 2 yrs...what should i do? i'm not a very mechanical person so i'm thinking of just bringing it to a shop or something and have them do what they need to.the motor ran like a champ before sitting for 2 yrs...i was with him on the last trip he took it out on...do you think anything is wrecked on it for sitting outside?how much do u think it would cost me to bring it in and have them tune it up and winterize it?thanks
VMS
If you got an awesome deal on it, I'd take it in and have them do a once-over on the motor. Definitely want to have them start the motor and put it under load to see how good power is. If the motor has been sitting, it very well could have some carb issues, and if fogging oil was not put in, there might be other issues inside as well (I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope there is no rust inside the block) some things you can check and do yourself like lower unit lube, fresh oil, lube moving parts etc. But starting it up and running it under load would be my biggest concern. My father had a 1986 merc that would start just fine, and throttle up without load fine, but as soon as the motor needed to push something, it had no power...ended up being gunked carbs from sitting too long. Not sure how much it would cost, but in the long run, I'm thinking it will be money well spent.Steve
FISHINGURU
well i pretty much bought it thinking i might have to do a little work and a tune up. from what i've seen looking around at boats i think i got a pretty nice deal. $2300 for a 99 lund with a 99 30hp honda 4 stroke with ez roller trailer, trolling motor, fish finders, livewells, ect....the boats only been on the water 20-30 times max. last time it ran it started instantly everytime and ran so quite i could barely tell she was running...hopefully if i get her tuned up and winterize it i won't have any problems. does anyone know how much it would cost for me to bring it in and have it looked at, tuned up, and winterized it , if they didn't find any major problems? just an estimate or ball park figure? thanks guys

Down Deep
You probably have nothing to worry about. I would take the motor in and have it tuned up. One thing I would check is the wiring. Mice like to gnaw on the wires.
Kylersk
I had my 115 opti winterized by Gander Mountain and the bill was $150. So, I'd guess it'll be less than that? You wanted ball park, so here's a big ball park figure.
