I wonder who finished 2nd in the most Popular driver.....AGAIN...Jeff Gordon grin.gif

I forgot that doesn't count for anything... wink.gif

So here are some other Nascar award winners.....

•Pole Award and $100,000 to Jeff Gordon, who led the Cup series with seven poles.

• Commit to Win Award and $75,000 to Jeff Gordon.

• Lap leader Award and $75,000 to Jeff Gordon, who led more than 900 laps in 2007.

• Pit Championship Award and $155,000 to the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy driven by Jeff Gordon.

• Most Driver Points "season" Jeff Gordon... $100,000.

How about 3rd place Most Popular Driver....LOL...Napa how many times did you vote for the 3rd place driver. grin.gif

I dont believe anyone said that jeff's stats were not very good or awesome to say the least.

Seems its always Jeff against Jr. Lets just say that Jr is the most popular and Jeff has some awesome stats.

Thats the way I see it. Nowe, I think I'll have a beer with Jr. smile.gif

Agreed. This just came out wrong. What I meant was that Jeff has great stats and that nobody would disagree with that. Also that I was stating that jeff's stats are great and awesome at that.

I forgot that doesn't count for anything...

This is what Pier bridge stated and I was just repling that the post was about Jr's pop. and not that jeff isn't a great driver.

Funny, I don't understand why there is any talk of Gordon in this thread when the OP was about Jr's 5th consecutive most popular driver award.

Really, do you use your fingers to count to ten too? Follow along, I'll let you know how it goes. The thread started talking about the MPD (who happens to be JR). Then the thread Moved to who was 2nd in MPD (just happens to be JG). Then the thread moved to other awards that were handed out. (ARE YOU FOLLOWING ALONG. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE SO FAR?) Then people started to make comments about the above stated topics, which is what forum threads are all about.

Other than TNFL's obvious points what did you think was going to happen when you started a thread mocking Gordon's drive for Five championships, the smiley you added to the thread title was a nice touch also. grin.gif

The only "Drive for Five" that I'm aware of that had a chance of actually happening was Jr winning the Most Popular Driver....the reason this thread was started for.

Smiley? I guess because I'm happy Jr. won it for the 5th time. grin.gif

TNFL - What you described is called "thread hijacking" in the message board world. Happens a lot! wink.gif

Now that Jr will have one of those HMS cars thats seem to usually have problems in Tech, He may just be faster like the HMS guys. blush.gifgrin.gif

I wonder how wonder boy would do in a less than ideal car as Jr has been piloting? confused.gif

Like Limitout stated, the only driver this season to have succeded in the Drive for Five was yes, JR. grin.gif

HMMMMM. I personally thought that Martin Truex Jr., who by the way is not near the quality of driver as the likes of Johnson, Gordon, Stewart, Kenseth etc. did fairly well in the "so called" garbage equipment DEI has.

Sorry for getting off the "thread topic" but I am just responding to a previos post.

Alright...I'm going to throw a little fuel on the fire...

Does anyone think that jr, who (I feel) has yet to learn how to effectively deal with an ill-handling car going to do any better with HMS ill-handling car? Next year will really be a telling year in terms of Jr's abilities. If he continues the way he has the past couple of years, he will be marketable for his name and not for his ability to drive.

Next year someone will have egg on their face (and...admittedly, it could be me too...)

I do know this, if he had not blown so many motors, he would have been in the final run and finished higher than Martin.

With the HMS motors and the well built cars along with some info coming from his other team members he will have a much better year.

Yes, I will gladly eat my words if this come true.

I do beleive that although DEI did have issues with their motors, Jr. blew up twice as many engines as his team mate. Is it possible he took himselve out of the chase by abusing his engines? Next year he will have top level equipment. Should be no more excuses but one can only wonder what they will be. Hendrick took on Jr. for his big bucks markability more than his driving skill. Jr. is definately not a bad driver but I feel difinately not in the top five.

I can't wait till next year to see if my opionion is correct or totally wrong, which it definately could be.

I would agree that Jr caused the failure of one engine due to shifting issues as he did state.

How could we know whyHMS took Jr on. I dont believe that Mr. Hendrick would hire a driver that could not or would not be a great driver. I will give him a little more credit than that.

Rick Hendrick is not as successfull as he is by only looking for popular drivers without talent.

I don't think so either...it's a team deal. You can have the greatest driver in the world competing, but if the pit crew,or the shop's engine crew, chassis crew etc are not on, it doesn't happen...

If the team is "ON" with everything up to but not including the driver and they can adjust the car well enough for a mediocre driver, it is very possible. This (I believe) is what will need to happen in order for Jr. to win a championship. (it is true for all teams but for a higher-end mediocre driver like Jr. as I feel..the team will play a bigger role in this ever happening)
