10 lbs. 4oz. Crappie?

I had a week off from work and planned on going to Mille lacs for a couple of days. With all the slow reports I opted to go to a small lake in the Brainerd area and fish crappies. I got up there Friday and was fishing by 3:30p.m.. I set up in 34 ft. of water fishing 10 ft. off the bottom. By 3:40 I had my first 11 inch crappie. Ten minutes later another one..10 inches. Life was good! Then on my vexilar I saw a nice red line about 2 ft. below my bait. I picked up my bait about 6 to 8 inches, jiggled and set back down. The red line rose slowly until it became one with my bait. WHAM! My cork went down. When I set the hook I knew this was no crappie. This fish was pulling my 4 lb. test line off my crappie rod with ease. I figured I had hooked into a 5 to 7 lb. northern. After roughly 5 minutes I finally saw it..my bobber stop. I'm getting closer I thought. Then a couple of minutes later I saw her swim by the hole. With the thickness across the back I knew this was bigger than 5 to 7 lbs. Finally when I got her head up the hole and grabbed her by the gill I was holding a 10lbs, 4oz. Walleye. While I have been blessed with catching a lot of nice walleyes, with these circumstances, this is one I will never forget!

Congrats Trophyhunter, thats a nicer eye. You will never forget that day, and the fish will get bigger over time smile.gif
Hope you can improve on that

My biggest eye is 28 inches through the ice on a tipup. What a rush, forget bunjee jumping, hook into one of these bad boys with a mini fishing rod/reel.

Very cool! I have yet to catch a big walleye through the ice. I have a big enough problem getting the 2 pounders out without losing them at the hole.
MJ5 it is good to see you around. You must have been getting in a lot of time on the ice.

Eric, Great job on the 4#. I can tell you fish a bit (ok,A lot) Not very often someone on the ice can do what you did regarding the # of your fish, Set drag up, then down, then up......You get my drift... I have a 10# Mille lacs on the wall and for all the walleyes I have caught in my lifetime, they are rare.I am impressed!!!! Keep up the good work! Perchsearcher-Work at the craft..
P.S. I had the chance to catch mine on 6# on open water.Nooooo.Comparison.Good Job!!!!!!!
