Pulley system to store my 2 man fish house

booshy

Question

I have been toying with the thought of getting my 2 man fish house off my garage floor when it's not sitting in the back of my truck. Has anybody used or made a good pulley stystem to hoist the house up to the garage ceiling? I know there are some store types around but they are lite weight jobs. I'm not sure if this topic has been covered in the past but if so I would be interested to find out more.

Thanks for your help or any suggestions

This summer I debated on whether to build a pulley system or just to purchase something. I ended up purchasing the Racor Heavy Lift system. (I purchased mine at Menards, and I saw them at Wal-Mart in Monticello for 90 or 100) Anyway, it's a heavy duty nice system. I have an Otter Lodge and there is plenty of room for that and all of my ice fishing gear and it is rated to hold 250lbs.

Instead of using the "crank" I use my 1/2" chuck rechargeable drill. Easy to use, and I installed it myself in a couple of hours.

We made one for my buddy's house that works pretty well. It consists of a platform that he sets the sled on, that has four ropes coming together at the top with carabiner hooks. After putting the sled on the platform he hooks the 4 ropes together on a ring. The ring is connected to a rope on an old hand crank boat trailer winch. (An electric or ATV winch would work if you want to spend some extra bucks) We ran the rope through some pulleys so the winch could be mounted to the wall in a convienient place. Simply crank the winch and raise the platform up until it is high enough to be out of the way.

Make sure if you do something like this that the rope/cable the pulleys and their mounts are strong enough to withstand the loads. We actually put a couple safety chains to cradle the load so that he can relax the rope once the sled is in place.

We also thought of using his ATV winch to raise it and then secure it in a different way, but found that to take longer to set up than a permanently mounted system.

Hopefully this is clear enough to understand, or at least help you imagine something similar. If anyone else comes up with any refinements or other ideas throw them out here.
