Buddy quits working?

I have a Mr.Heaters Buddy that runs fine for about 8 minn.then it quits.It will start right back up just like new every time I try it!I have changed the 1 pound tank and it makes no differance.The pilot and porcilin grid go out at the same time.

Check to see that the thermocouple is close to the grid, if not, bend it in a little.

I suspect that you will have to change the thermocouple though.

I looked at moveing the thermocouple but its mounted more solid than on the sunflower.It puzzles me that both flames go out at once,there should be a slight delay before the porcilin goes out after the pilot goes out if its the thermocouple.I think!

I had this issue while deer hunting and I just replaced the thermo couple and all is well.

Worked for me but mine would only run for approx 3-4 minutes. I dont believe one can bend anything to get it closer to the flame as I tried this and that holder for the thermocouple head is very solid in place. I could tip the one end of my heater so the flame would hit the Thermocouple and then there was enough heat to keep it going. This would have only worked for a short period of time and then it would have died. $8 and see is fixed.

Does yours have the oxigen sencer?If yes where did you buy the replacement part?

My 4 year old Buddy heater does the same thing.

A friend's Buddy had the same problem and he found it was a faulty pressure regulator. I was informed that if you run the Buddy off of a 20lb tank to shut the valve off the tank and run the gas (pressure) out first or it can damage the regulator inside the heater. I almost always used a 20lb tank, and I'm hoping this is the problem.

I recently ordered a regulator and a fuel filter from Mr. Heater and I can report back when I put the new parts in. You can buy parts from the manufacturer's HSOforum..

The last time it worked good,it was on a 20 LP.I dont remember if I ran the hose emty or not.Im going to see if it will run on the 20 again and see what happens.The only time I run a 1LP is in the deer stand!

I should have asked before...does the pilot light flutter a bit before going out? Mine would start and heat up slowly, spit/flutter a couple times before everything quit after several minutes. It would start again and go through the cycle..

To post an update- I finally received my new regulator in the mail, re-assembled it and now the heater works like it did when it was new. It's an easy fix, just pull the one side off where the regulator is. You will see some clips from underneath to release them and pull the plastic side off. There are 2 different styles of regulators (I had a "Precimex") in these heaters and you will need to disassemble to know which one you need.

If you use a 5-20lb tank with a hose I learned it's recommended to attach their "fuel filter" to the regulator also.

I took mine apart and moved the thermocoupler closer to the flame in the pilot,works great now!I tryed to buy a new thermo. at L-M supply but had to order it.It comes with a new pilot asembly also,that should take care of my problem.I just hope it comes in soon,Im takeing the wife fishing this weekend and its going to be cold!
