tealitup
Just thought I would write the group here for the trapping section.I have never trapped anything or shot yotes- but would like to learn. If anyone has the time to take a newbie out - just to follow I would be greatful.I live in Newport, but could drive anyplace for a time in the woods. fishermann222
Teal look into joining the MTA. Attend a meeting and ask for some "on the line training". I am sure there are MORE than a few guys who will be willing to help you out. If you can't find anyone, let me know I will try my connections down there for you. Eric Wettschreck
It's going to be a while yet. I want to get a layer of snow on the ground. It makes them easier to spot and the dogs get a much better whiff of them.
Scott K
Sorry, dont want to steal your thread, but didnt want to start another topic on the same subject, and the answers may help us both!I want to get in to yote hunting this year also, and have a few questions. I have a gun some calls, and land to hunt, lots of yelping in the evenings around where I am hunting. Just the basics. How would you start, sitting? calling? shining? Any tips ? Hunt open areas, wooded, ravines? Mornings, days, evenings, nights?
Eric Wettschreck
I'm really not the expert on this topic. When we go yote hunting we use dogs. My friend has "sniffer, chaser, and kill" dogs.Sometimes we can hear them yelping in the evenings and we will go find them.As far as calling, I have to let someone else answer that one.
