Guest
need to ask all the smart one,s on this board a ???when the overnight temp is from 5° to 10° and the day time temp is 25° to 30° with wind 10 to 15 mph, then does anyone know how much ice it should make in 24 hrs. Hemlock
I don't think that there is a set-in-stone formula for ice making. Snow thickness and current would definately be some contributing factors.------------------Hemlock"Throw'm back"
Ice Hole
You would think there would be some sort of rough estimate or something on ice making based on tempurature and maybe wind. But I don't know.
GullGuide
There are way too many variables involved to give a formula that would work in all circumstances. Ice thickness, how long the temp stays at a certain degree, sunny or overcast skies, along with things already mentioned such as snow depth, current, etc.
Bobb-o
they had something on the wcco news on thursday aboot how long it takes to make a certain amount of ice with certain temps
IcePro
On another post people can predict the size and type of fish on their Vexilar but they can not determine ice formation. I find this very interesting.
Guest
It all depends on the depth of the lake a shallow lake will make ice faster than a deep one at first ice. Once there is a good layer lets say six inches heres how it would continue to form without springs, snowcover, bridges, and like they said some other surcumstances.25-30 day 5-10 night make 1/2 inch ice overnight25-30 day 5below-5 night make 1 inch icenever have seen more than one inch made in a 24 hour day and it does not make any faster the colder it gets after the 5 belowJust my observation on my local lake. Under normal conditions and when do we ever get normal days in the great state of MNGOODLUCK THE FISH ARE BITING even with the cold front
swampman
from my experiance the first foot can come pretty fast given the right conditions.after that not as fast, as the ice gets thicker it tends to have somewhat of a insulating factor from the cold above. Guest
I live on Otisco Lake In CNY and this Lake Won't freeze if its to windy. We have had a string of 2 or 3 weeks of below freezing weather, but if the lake has 2 foot waves on it, it just won't ice. Its sooo frustrating.
