jwilli7122
How do you guys set up your walleye spoons? Do you tie direct or use a snap or split ring? swivel or no swivel? treble hook or single hook?
Guest
Most of the time I use a small snap on mine. I prefer a treble hook.
Poutmaster
I have my jigging rod spooled with fireline, and tipped with about 20" of mono. I then use a small snap to connet the spoon to the mono so that switching spoons can be done quickly and easily without re-tying every time. ------------------Flag Up! greenback
The snaps your talkin about, do they have swivels with them or are they just a plain clip?
muchowja
I'm pretty sure that they are talking about the snaps that have no swivels on them. They work great. I hated retying my line every time I wanted to change my lure so I think they are the best thing since sliced bread. They are tiny too so the fish shouldn't be bothered by them. I use fireline tied to a swivel and then tie about 2 feet of fluorocarbon to that to avoid too much line twist. I then put a snap clip on the end to complete the rig. Make sure your swivel will go through the eyes on your rod and you don't have too much mono on the end so the swivel doesn't reach your spool. Steve Foss
Tie line right to spoon. I always fish two lines when after walleye and in my Trap II. One is a bobber/live minnow rig. The other, my jigging rod, almost always has a Northland glow rattle spoon on it. It calls fish in better than anything else I can think of, and if fish aren't active enough to hit it, they'll usually pound the live minnow three feet away. So, since I don't have to change out lures often, I just tie the line directly. Especially in clear water, I don't like the extra hardware of a clip or swivel. I usually replace the factory treble with an aftermarket treble one size bigger.
Northlander
I change spoons often so I use cross snaps. Never had on open up on me. If Im using a real agressive spoon I either put a barrel swivel up the line a foot or so or use a snap swivel.
