How's the resort for occupancy and rates? With so many of us living near the Twin Cities (or further south), their room rates would have to be great. (You know, money is a little tight for a lot of us just after Christmas. That sounds like an expensive weekend with gas at about $1.50 a gallon and hotel accomodations needed.)
Sure wish I could go...oh, well.

Very little snow on Vermillion. Close to 2 feet of ice, so driving with trucks should be OK. I and a lot of others have been for a while.

There are some pretty well traveled roads out to the more popular areas so a sensible person shouldn't need 4 wheel drive( that leaves me out grin.gif)

People are driving on Vermilion. There is a small amount of snow and there are roads out to the popular spots.

You can bring an ATV or snowmobile if you'd like.

I will leave my cell phone number at Fortune bay Resort for those who come a little later and would like to join us.

Anyone else interested at all in joining us?

I'm in, got reservations for both nights. Bringing up the sled and portable.

Rick, is there going to be any grilling going on out on the ice? Just wondering if I should pack up sammy's or throw some elk steak in for lunch smile.gif Is Jim W gonna be there? Tried to hook up on Kab this fall but didnt work out for me.

Looks like some light snow for wed thru friday and nice temps for the weekend. It was cool this morning, 4 above here in Duluth and below zero on the range.
Looking forward to meeting a few of the FM crew. Had a fun Duluth/Superior get- together last weekend, the Big V this weekend and the trout get together in a few weeks. Doesnt get much better than that grin.gifgrin.gif
See you friday night.

PS: There is a pool/hottub, and free heated dog kennels for anyone else that might be bringing the spouse and/or kids or pet.
Plus my wife would be happy to show yours how to drain a checkbook in Ely's shops, which are only @ 20 minutes away wink.gif

Hey Xplorer, if they're going to grill out on the ice, make sure you actually take your grill OUT ON THE ICE instead of using it in the parking lot this time. hehehe.

Do they allow beer drinking on Vermilion?

Hey now Catfish,
If I was pullin the otter with the sled I dont mind a bit of extra weight in it. But when I'm a pullin it by hand, well that extra weight is a no-no grin.gif Actually, one leg of it rusted thru since last summer, I figured if I hauled it out in the sled it fall apart and ash everywhere. One more thing to fix now.
See you guys saturday.

PS: No beer drinking or brandy shots on the lake unless it is within 50' of my shack wink.gif

Ah, that makes your shack a sort of "drink hearty" zone. Well, the more that gets done around your shack, the more yellow patches will be on the snow all around you. No way will you convince the game warden it wasn't you "depositing waste products on the ice." grin.gif
