The Infisherman Series of Ice Tech DVD's are some of the first ones I ever saw. Nature Vision's Discoveries on Ice is a Promotional DVD, but still has fishing and is FREE.

Its so hard to find fishing DVDs that simply are not glorified infomercials. I can't think of any that arent just trying to sell me more dump.

I really enjoy a couple books on the subject. Methods of Modern Ice fishing is great, with tons of great pictures, also Ice Fishing Secrets from In-fisherman is awesome too.

Sorry I cant help you with movies.

Here are the one's that I have In Fisherman Ice Fishing Secrets I, Ice Fishing Secrets II, ICE Tech, and ICE Tech Jigging secrets. Nature Visions promo ice fishing DVD from last year. Dave Genz Blue Gills. And Nature Vision has a New promo DVD that you can have sent to you if you apply for it on the web site. Other then those 7 DVD's I don't know of any others. You can find some short clips on line at you tube and ice fishing sites, but it can be a lot of work for the length that some of the clips are.

Gotta go with the nature vision promo DVD.

My reasons?

1) It's free

2) It has fishing

3) It shows how to expertly lose your sunglasses down the hole but still pop a nice trout grin.gif

Actually, I will have to see what is out at the big stores. Don't currently own any ice fishing DVDs. I'll have to change that.

I teach the fishing meritbadge for the boy scouts. I have several vhs videos that are nearing their end due to use and books about ice fishing. Where can you purchase the new dvd's and updated materials? I appreciate your help.

All I can say is the Linders as well as In fisherman are GREAT. I consider these guys the formost angling authorities and great teachers as well. They actually teach you something about fishing and tell you what they are doing, some of these other guys must want to keep it a secret cause all you see them do is pull in fish, and all they say is "nice fish". Its good to see them catch fish but i find it much more entertaining when you actually learn something and they let you know what they are doing. With that these guysdon't make the whole thing into one big sponser commercial and don't try to promote themselves to make a buck. Some of those guys are pathetic the way they market products 50-75 percent of the time you see them, sure we all know they have sponsors and believe in the products they use mentiion them or hold the fish up to the camera with the jig or spoon in its mouth. Getting a little carried away here, but I hate to see the sport I love being so canned and politicized! You can tell any time Al Linder catches a fish it still fires him up and hes caught thousands of fish maybe more, thats love for the sport and sharing it with other people as well, and adding in notes of conservation.

    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
    • Sketti...  not out of a jar either!
    • Lol yeah I watched that
