Walleyes behaving like scavengers

Okay so I was using some cut suckers trying to catch a kitty but then I got a walleye on the end. I'd thought that maybe it was just a fluke and that while the walleye tried to inhale maybe some other baitfish hanging out by the bait. However after catching over a dozen walleyes, I'm convinced that these hungry, hungry, 'eyes are trying to fatten themselves up for the winter on fish meat. Ah heck catch them anyway I can I suppose. It's not unheard of to catch them with a jig and a dead minnow dancing, but on just cut fish sitting on the bottom...scavenger.

I've accidentally caught more walleyes on the river on Cut Sucker or Live Bullheads fishing for catfish than I care to count. Some real beasts as well - 29 1/2" from the Red, 28" from the MN, a few 27-28s from the Mississippi. Pike will take cutbait as well in the river.

I'm not sure if I would target walleyes with cut sucker but I won't complain if a fatty accidentally eats my cat bait. grin.gif
