Anyone else having a hard time finding grouse this year? I was under the impression that the grouse numbers were going to be up from last year which was a good year. Is there any chance that a few grouse died in the early part of winter when it was cold and we had no snow?

We've had an influx of them on our land this year, they have mostly taken refuge in an area that was selectively logged this year. Seeing quite a few near our food plots as well. 3 out of 4 trips in the woods I have seen at least 2 each outing.

I have a buddy who is doing alright, but only in certain areas. I know while hunting/camping earlier this year in areas that were thick with grouse say back in the late 1990's I just have not been seeing many. Maybe another year or two?

everytime I'm out, I see two or three of them. One or two of them don't flush, so I let them go. The dog will point them, and they'll just run in circles clucking and when I got up to them, they run straight away. I want to shoot them to get them out of the gene pool, but can't bring myself to thinking it's a sporting shot. Any ideas?

I love to eat them so I know exactly what I would do.

QS, I was doing some grouse hunting today and I ran into Dennis and he had to go to the lamprey stopper and he let me tag along. Got to watch the window and some tapes. You have missed a few fish grin.gif

Only seen 3 grouse and didn't get a shot off. Did find some more deer ticks crazy.gif

I love eating them too, but love trying to hit them on the fly!
