Early season deer

Recommended Posts

I keep getting conflicting info on the early season from license sellers. My question is: Do the early season tags count against the bag limit of 5 deer total in an intensive area? One place says yes, the other says no they are seperate and do not count against the bag limit of 5. Hopefully lcornice will clarify.

Early season Doe tags are seperate from your regular season firearms license, if your in a Intense harvest it does not go against the doe tags for regular firearms season,

Remember to not try and fill early season doe tags left over during the regular firearms season also.

I'll quote by reading a passage from the Book of Regulations, page 66 ... (sorry, couldn't resist)

Exceptions to the 5 deer limit are:

- the early antlerless season where two additional deer may be taken.

So no, it doesn't count towards your total 5. There's also a bunch of information on the early season here: 2007 DNR Early Antlerless Information.

Good luck to everyone and be safe. I'll be up in Roseau county working and partaking in the season myself.

I found basically the same info in the FAQ part of the regs:

Q: How many deer can I legally tag per year?

A: During the regular seasons, up to 5 deer can be taken per year. Additionally, landowners can tag one deer in certain deer areas and 2 deer can be taken during the early antlerless season.

So you can take 5 deer with the All-Season and bonus permits...and an extra 2 if you get the early season. From what I understand, the early season deer tagged do not count towards the 5 you are allowed to tag during regular seasons.

Thanks Lcornice, I knew you'd have the answer. I will inform the local bait shop to make sure they are putting out the correct info.

Sounds good. If they have web access, I'd send them the link I posted. It should answer the majority of questions that come up.
