Wind activated spinning wing decoy question

Recommended Posts

Bought a wind powered spinning wing decoy this year. However, at some times it spins way to fast and makes a lot of noise in the wings. Used it the other day and it seemed like it was flaring ducks. Anyone experience any problems like this, and if so know have you had any success in tampering with the original design to quiet the spinning wings. I know I should just buy a mojo but I am just curious if anyone has had a similar problem. Thanks to all who reply.

Our hunting party has one. We love it. I doubt its the noise produced from the wings spinning. An actual ducks wing beat is much louder. Check into other areas as far as flaring ducks. Ducks love movement, alot! Infact, I would bet that they are too focused on the movement to even notice the sound of the wings.

Take the mylar off that I taped to the head, and the blaze orange undersides. Should be good to go after that.

BTW LipEm, rule #1 of waterfowl hunting, never leave a fellow waterfowl hunter behind, waterfowl hunters take care of #1.

All I can say about you going to North Dakota, is rule #1...I hope you flip your truck over and knock your two front teeth out! You selfish s.o.b! You leave me in the trenches taking grenades, John!

I don't hunt with spinners but the word in ND was that the birds were wise to that trick. I saw birds circling a quarter section with three groups of field hunters each with two spinners, they never commited to any of the setups. In fact those groups didn't get any shooting in the 30 minutes I watched and there were alot of mallards working the area, I already had my five drakes.

You and your gosh darn negativity! I'm an ideas man, I thrive on enthusiasm. Hey, maybe if you could call worth a darn I wouldn't be worried about why my spread is flaring ducks! tongue.gif Maybe its not the spinning wing that's flaring the ducks away from our blind, maybe its you! confused.gif

By the way, you forgot rule #2 which always overules rule #1: Never pass up a huge oppurtunity to wackem and stackem even if your best friend can't go with you!

Finally, it's time to change the username buddy, the franchise no longer plays for the wolves; it's time to move on with your life and stop dwelling on the past tongue.gif

love mine more than my battery powered one i see more ducks decoy to it than the mojo

Same here. I use my wind activated everytime there is enough wind. I can't stand the sound of the battery powered ones. Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick......
