crawlers

Cleaning out the fridge the other day and found a dozen crawlers in the back of it. I thought oh no, but when opened, the crawlers were still alive and kicking. Has anyone used crawlers for ice fishing? I bet they would work good. Guess I will find out when I get home from my winter fishing trip, in Montana.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago except I had a box of Red Worms left over in the fridge. I tried them out Perch fishing and they worked just as good as bugs.

I've tried them maybe a dozen of times over the last few years. Could not buy a bite on them. I thought that they would work great with the scent and all. I'm sure if they worked in the winter bait shops would be caring them all year. But then I got a tackle box full of things that I can't catch a fish on.

My neighbor works at gas station he brought me 6 dozen crawlers home the other day(they were throwing them out still good though). I to had good luck with the perch and blugills. I accidently kick them over and 3-4 swam to the bottom and after a while a walleye came and sucked all of them off the bottom. So I put one on plain hook and let it sit completly on the botttom and sure enough one come and scooped it up. Could not get nothing while on jig. The only thing, I was fishing there before and knew the fish were around I dont think I would let one sit on bottom if I was searching for fish. But if your on some fish give it a try on your lake it worked on mine. GOODLUCK THE FISH ARE BITING

Last year I was out fishing for mainly crappies and the bite had kinda slowed so i decided to try a crawler and boy i am glad i did. Wasnt long and i brought up a slab that was unbelievable. 15 1/4 long and about 21/2in thick on its back. Was gonna hang it on the wall but decided not to spend the $100 or so. From now on all biggins go back. This lake usually kicks out pretty good numbers of 13-15 inch fish so i am sure theres one thats a 3# in there. The crappies are almost impossible to catch in the summer so the only time i am able to locate them is winter. I was brought up to keep almost everything you catch and two years ago 4 of us limited out on 12-13"crappies. Last year i said thats not rite and way to much work cleaning so we only kept enough for a meal. I want my kids to be able to have fun just as i have!

Glad to see more of us are releasing what we dont need for a meal. I too have kids and want them to enjoy hunting and fishing sa much as I do.

Last winter I caught a big walleye 9#+ and asked my little boy if we should keep it,he said no let her go,so I let him slide her down the hole, put a smile on both of us.
We dont keep any walleyes over 3 pounds, and only keep enough of any type of fish for a meal.

See ya on the hard water, Friend

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
