koonie
Just wondering if anyone has tried grunting in a buck early in the season. If so, have you had any luck with it? Any advice or comments welcome.
DonBo
I think grunting works most any time during the season. Not every time, but often enough. I use it early in the season only when I see a buck that will pass by out of range. The worst response I have seen is no response. I have never seen a buck spook from a grunt call. You have nothing to loose.
fivebucks
I have spooked bucks with a grunt call. I had a small 6 pt walking thru and I grunted just to see what the response would be. That deer looked around for the bigger buck and when it couldn't see it he high tailed it out of their. He wanted nothing to do with the buck making the grunt. This was in mid October. I do think grunting can spook them or bring them in. I have an adjustable grunt call where I can grunt with a higher pitch (smaller deer I hope) this time of year and closer to the rut I will go deeper if I am after a larger buck. I think it depends on what you are targeting.
