Cyberfish
Anyone see that huge yellow trout in the trout pond at the ice show? I thought it was a carp at first! There is at least one of those in x-mas lake too. when I saw it, I thought the same thing, that it was a carp. then it turned on its side and I saw that red stripe and then it was gone! Surface Tension
It may have well died, with the help of some young fishin dude. After watching trout many an hour under the ice through an 8" hole. Trout are realy like a snow flakes, no 2 are a like. How many of you guys have held your little buddy up to those trout ponds and helped then hook a trout. Just like papa bear and baby bear.
SpikeRoberts
I was at the trout pond with my little one and asked the proprieter about the fish and he said it was a golden rainbow -- is this a rare hybrid or subspecies of some sort?
Walleye_GFA
We had them in Kansas... they are a special cross breed that are supposed to be resistant to heat and disease... they are known to grow routinley to 6 pounds or so... fun to catch, and quite tasty as well...W_GFA
Guest
Here out west there are a few hatcheries producing genetically altered trout, one type is triploid (three chromosomes), so its kind of a big female but doesn't spawn.. Another trout I saw at a show was deemed a thunder trout, again genetically altered, yellow in color as a recall and designed to be one of the toughest fighting fish. It may not be a thunder trout but I thought it might be interesting.
Fishn'Lady
Did you see the two orange fish? I kept calling them oversized gold fish, but were those trout as well? I am not familiar to that species at all. --------- Hey! Your bobbers gone! Fishn'Lady
Guest
The proper name is golden rainbow trout. It is a hybrid between two strains of rainbow trout developed in West Virgina. They are extremely common in eastern waters where they are stocked as trophy fish due to their novelty. Most people call them palominos, but this is incorrect. I myself call them palominos, since that is what everyone else calls them. When in Rome do as the Romans.
IceNutt
The DOW in Colo have stocked golden trout in years past. Funny but I caught a 14" icefishing last winter. So pretty I turned it back. Hope it turns into a trophy. ------------------IceNut
Crawlerman
They had like six of them in the pond today atleast... and there were signs saying "catch and release only of the Golden trout" why even put them in there then? A couple of the ones I saw up close had several flys in there mouths. The lines on the poles were lower quality and very frayed monofiliament; and broke on some of the bigger rainbows that were hooked (about 1 1/2 lbs or so) I only caught two half pounders; but it was enough to make dinner. I think they are just trying to screw with people's heads with the "golden trout" is all...
