The quest for 50"

Some remember "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". A bunch of goofs riding fake horses through the movie all looking for "the Grail". With Muskie anglers it's not much different. "what is your name? What is your favorite color? What do you seek?", with us it's a 50"+ monster Musky.

Last night I had the pleasure of going fishing with a good friend of mine. He is fairly new to Musky fishing as am I but it's the thrill of the chase that keeps us fishing. We hit the water around 6:30 and started casting. After about an hour of hauling baits I had to wrap it up because of a lingering shoulder injury causing me some pain. I motored Josh over to a point and told him to take the bow and make a few casts. He made the first 2 casts over the rocky bar and then followed by throwing the next couple casts closer to the emerging weeds. As I jockied the boat to give him a better angle he hauled his Cowgirl along the weedbed and after a couple cranks I hear those magic words that everyone loves to hear... " FISH ON! ". I looked up and noticed the bend in the rod as the fish stated to battle. I then hear the nervous excitement as he says boldly for me to get the net and he has a " Good Fish ". I grabbed the net and got into position to head the fish into the basket but the fish had other plans, to head for deeper water. We schuffled around the boat when he finally headed the fish my way and I scooped her into the net. It was instant excitement for both of us. I knew that he had found "the Grail" of Muskies. We kept the fish in the water while we got things ready for the PR of the CPR. Josh's camera was dead but luckily I had mine as I snapped a few photo's of his fish.

The release...

After some heart pumping high fives we went through the whole series of events over and over again. It was truely a moment to remember for both of us.

Muskie fishing is exciting, eventful, exhausting and expensive but last of all, it's worth it!

Congratulations Josh!!!

Nice job Corey and tell your friend i said congratulations on the lunker! Thanks for helping me out at the show by suggesting that Thorne Bros custom rod for me. Seems like a very nice rod, also for helping me choose a few new baits. Was good talking to you and thanks for sharing some tips with me i look foward to more of those tips.

Thanks again!
