lookincalifornia
my 18 month old boy has decided that his new favorite toy is an old bill norman crankbait that i found a couple of weeks ago. it has no hooks, but still has the o rings on it. my question is, is it safe for him to handle it? i know that all lure packages say "this product contains lead" i always assumed the lead was in the treble hooks. is there lead in the paint as well? he really likes it, and i am not discouraging him. he only says a few words, and one of them is 'bass'
Deitz Dittrich
I think..and could be wrong on this..but I think the Lead is in the plastic. I know there are quite a few plastic worms that also have the disclaimer as well...
lookincalifornia
great job deitz, you made my son cry i had a feeling it was not the safest thing, but it is fun to watch him get so excited over a crankbait. i guess a good tickle will help the greiving process. river rat316
The lead is the weight inside of the CrankBait, as long as its not busted open its probably safe. Most of the time that you see the lead disclaimer on a plastic package its because the manufacturer uses the same packaging for everything and adds individual stickers for whatever is in there (if this makes any sense) so the manufacturer could throw bulk jigs in the bag or plastics in the bag and just put and individual sticker on it for whats inside (better pricing from printshops for this)
JP Z
Sorry Riverrat, but I think their is Lead in the plastisols. I've noticed on rods I get they have that warning............I know it's not for the jigheads that may go with that Shimano.....
Deitz Dittrich
Thanks for the backup JPZ... I was begining to think I was crazy... I know I had heard somewhere that there is small amounts of lead in many plastics.
Random guy
Yes the plastic AND paints may contain lead. The paints I use for my plastic mold bodies has big warnings about lead in them. Bummer anyways, may have to get the kid some plastic toy fish. Target toys have them.
