CALVINIST
I have been reading up on drod-shotting and wanting to give it a try for both lm and sm bass and walleyes, and know people say they use braid with a fluorocarbon dropper. Is there any reason why a guy couldn't just spool up with Fireline cyrstal and use that for the dropper as well? Just trying to stretch my money by buying one spool of line verses two. Cyberfish
Fireline is at least as spendy as flouro ! Try plain old Monofilament, worked for me, I used to set up dropshot rigs for the kids at camp, they caught tons of bass and pike too... where are you fishin this weekend? CALVINIST
Mike, what I mean is buying both the braid and fluorocarbon, which is what some people say you should use when rigging up. Why not just buy the fireline. I have a tendency to lose those hefty fish on mono so I stay away from it, besides, the sensitivity of a braid is critical to detecting bites while dropshotting, so they say. CALVINIST
Quote:where are you fishin this weekend? Not sure yet Mike. Saturday we're going to the fair, but could get out in the eve. Sunday's a bust (church and wedding aniversary) Monday is open too. Was thinking of trying the Miss. river @ Dayton but don't know if I can get in. Get Lucas onto some carp or cats, ya know. Tonka should start kickin' out some fish pretty soon too, which is why I want to try anchoring up and drop-shotting or jigging on rocks or a deep weed edge for some eyes or whatever. Deitz Dittrich
calv- Do a search in the bass forum here and you will have a ton of reading on your hands on drop shotting... I myself would not use a briad for dropshotting... I se either straight up mono or straight up floro.. 6-8 lb.
ocf1
Deitz, why not braid?
Deitz Dittrich
I consider dropshotting a finess technique... Its all about steath, small lures and light line. I just dont feel that braid fits that bill. I'm sure you can catch fish using braid.. but I would be willing to bet.. side by side, same lure same everything... mono would get you more bites.Just my opinion of coarse. lookincalifornia
hey deitz, have you ever tired a smaller drop shot when ice fishing? i just thought it could work for finicky fish who don't want to see a jighead
Deitz Dittrich
I have a few tiems, but still feel that a jig or spoon works better. IF, and that is a huge IF.. IF I did not have any eletronics with me, I think a drop shot would be very effective... But if you ever catch me on the lake without a depthfinder.. uhhhh no.. not going to happen! I have back up to the back up to the back ups! I have 4 ice fishing depthfinders...
