Lake of the Woods in October

Hello -

I'm planning a trip to Lake of the Woods in mid to late October. We'll be fishing LOW and the Rainy river. What would you suggest we use for bait and tackle, and what presentations seem to work best at that time? We'll be targeted walleyes.

It's my first trip up there so I'm looking for some helpful info!

Thanks in advance.

On the river I would jig a shiner with a jig or jiggin spoon like the Buckshot rattle spoon or JR Tackles Flasher spoon. Maybe even troll some cranks.

On the big lake cover ground til ya find them with cranks or spinner rigs. When ya get on them you could drift a jig or spoon but I think you will want to cover some water out there.

I've been going up for quite a few years now in late Oct. Lots of boats and lots of good fish. Mostly fish the river, many times even go south of Baudette as well, use heavy jigs as mentioned before. Good Luck.

It all depends on the timing Ive been up sevral years now and seem to hit the day before the big run begins. Still catch some fish just not as many as later when water temps drop those last couple of degrees to get the shiners running.
