mixing dekes?

I'm 15, hunt geese, & have a dozen carry-lite shells, and 2day just bought 6 magnum carry-lite shells. I bought the big 1s cuz I dont have a blind and wanted 2 cut slits in the magnums just like those chairs. If I put out the regular sized dekes and the 6 magnums, would it be bad 2 mix them? Thx

not bad to mix them. keep you geese paart from the dukies though. they cant be close, but if you watch them in nature, they dont really inter-mingle, just kinda hang out together. As far as standard ducks and mags, super mags. Some people state that ducks cant tell the differance, they can just see the bigger ones farther. Me on the other hand, I say ducks do come in differant sizes.

It doesent matter. Geese cant tell the difference between lesser's and super mag's from the air, they just see geese. I hunt over decoy spreads that have a mix of lessers to super mags all intermingled and shoot plenty of geese.

Personally if I use some magnums, I like to set them at the back of the spread as far away from where you plan on having the birds come in to shooting range. They can still get the birds attention from a distance, but don't look so huge to them when they're coming in close.

Nature hates symmetry. There are no constant sizes, straight lines or patterns in nature. I have learned over the years to mix sizes, brands and species of duck and goose decoys. When you are scouting, pay close attention to what you see not just where they are. Take some pictures and you will see what I mean.

ya mixing dekes is great. but i wouldn't recommend making a goose chair there hard to see out of and hard to call from. we took the decoys off and just use the chair works great

I also would avoid the goose chairs. you better off just staying out of view of the landing zone and using a small chair and camo. We ofter choose to shoot left to right or right to left instead of them landing right on top of us. Even though, that is fun too

When I was field hunting in MI a few years back, we laid off to the side and covered ourselves with burlap bags and some of the cut corn in this case. I would usually put one goose shell on my legs just to break up the pattern a little bit.

decoy chair looks like a good idea, but is a pain in practice. We mix decoys a ton. from wind socks to sillottee it seems to work.
