Ice Fishing for Cats!

I know this is not the time nor the place to bring this up, but does anyone have any ice fishing plans for cats this winter season. I know I saw some posts about this last winter, with some footage. I think it was Hanson or DTRO. I am an ice fishing freak with all the latest gear. I will make a valet attempt to get out a couple of times this year for cats. I will have to upgrade my rods and reels and was wondering what the guys who have gone for winter cats have to say about what type of gear to use.

I figure I would put the feeler out!

I'm sure there will be some sort of get together for the chilly cats.

I had never really done the hard water thing seriously for any species. Too bad Hanson had to go and screw up my whole winter for me now

I'll let someone else comment on gear as I'm as newbie as they get.

It would be fun though to take my Surge and ice a couple

I wish I had a lap top and digi camera before Feb… Funny thing though, one of my first websites I visited was FM. From a tip from my brother in-law, I found this site.

I learned of ice fishing for cats from a In-fisherman show that was shot on the MN and since then I have wondered about doing it. It is so easy for me to shoot up to Mill Lacs, verse going to MN to fish for cats. I always took the easy way out. Not this year! My fishing partners and I have made it a “must” for this year.

I have always been the factor of not going in years past, but this year I will go!

Josh, there was one planned for last winter but was cancelled due to heavy snow and bad ice. I would assume this winter there will be another. It should be listed in the Ice leaders forum in a few months yet.

Also Lake Zumbro down here near Rochester has some decent cats in it and we (Tyler and I) are planning on hitting it up for some cats this winter once the ice is safe. Lake Zumbro is a giant res, so there is some good current in it, but it always does seem to freeze up pretty good.

I would like to hit some of the metro lakes that are stocked with catfish. According to the dnr web site there are quite a few around.

for you savvy hard water catfishermen, is vertical jigging with the same baits as open water the trick?
