String Loop Problem!

Recommended Posts

I recently had a new string loop put on my bow and since then whenever I draw the bow, the arrow "suspends" above the rest at mid-draw, but either falls down away or falls back onto the rest once I am at full draw. I have a NAP Quiktune 1000 rest. Does anyone know how to fix this problem without going to the pro shop?

Might just need to be adjusted. I know many that are very good with the loop on the string.

Did you have one on the bow before or is the a new addition? Are you using the same release?

If this is a new loop, did you place it in the same position as this is just like your knocking point. I believe you will need to also use a release for a loop.

Also. if a new loop that you never used, more than likely you changed your draw lenght a little bit.

Many things could factor in to your problem.

Your rest likely isn't the issue at all.

Probably your new loop is a little shorter than the old one (or you switched releases too and the new one extends a little farther toward your nock). I'd bet your release is bumping the back of your arrow nock and forcing the arrow to elevate, then fall away from the rest.

That's what happened to me when I switched loops. I fixed it by trimming about 1/16 inch off the back of the arrow nock. The nock still anchors itself in the string but the release doesn't hit it anymore and the arrow lays on the rest just fine during the whole draw.

Try using a razor blade and trimming just a little bit off the back of one arrow nock and see if that fixes things.

No I didn't have a loop on my string before, but had one put on account of how much the serving was getting torn up where I would put my release. I don't think the loop is too short, in fact it adds a whole 3/4 of an inch to my draw length. I've watched the release and it is not touching the nock at all while drawing back. I'm thinking the nock is getting pinched somehow by the loop when the cams are just starting to turn over since that is when the string has the most pressure applied to it.

If the loop pinches the nock from top and/or bottom on the draw, the loop needs adjusting so it's got a wider gap. Either that or your release is riding up or down on the loop as it comes back instead of in the center of the loop, which would cause one side of the loop to bump the nock.

Otherwise, I dunno? Any other thoughts?

My guess is that the loop is pinching the arrow nock. Some people tie in nock points above and below the arrow nock to prevent this. I've never found it necessary though. If you had a shop install it for you, take it back and have them tie on a new one that is spread out a little more so it doesn't pinch. You could also learn to tie your own, it's pretty easy.

The shop that does my bow recommended I not use the loop, because there so hard too tune and they wont work with some arrow rests.Thats what I was told I've shot bows for almost 50 years and I'm not knowledgable in tuning, matching, new bows so I have to go by what I'm told.

I like my UltraNok.

It's a metal loop. Won't wear out, move or pinch.

I second the UltraNok. Peep is always aligned, no string wear and no pinch on arrow. Plus you can use a hook or caliper release with it.
