Ice Castle Houses

My wife's parents have one, I had some problems with the heater at first (I say I because they hardley ever use). There is supposed to be a block off on the front if you are using it with the two ducts. Someone (I am guessing the owner's son on his first day) blocked it off with a piece of plywood, not sheet metal. So it eventually started on fire, we threw water on it and the electic furnace never worked right again. To ice castles credit they shipped out a new heater and never even asked for the old one back. Now the heat system is great, it circulates very well.

I think some of the ice castle models are a lot more money (a couple grand) than others and I think it has to do with the framing being angle iron verses tubing. Someone else can probably elaborate on this. This one is the angle iron and there have never been any issues with it after about 5 years. If you are going to shop around and compare prices I would be careful to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Hope this helps.

I doubt that it was the owners kid. I have stopped at a few Ice Castle dealers in the past and thats the way many of there furnaces were installed. I suppose by "jimmy rigging" the furnace with a piece of plywood was one way in keeping the cost down.

They seem to be a great buy for the money. I have alooked at a few and really like them for the price. Also my friend has a 12 ft that I have fished out of and is really nice I have to say.

I can say first hand that Ice Castle houses are a good house for the money. I have many friends that have them with no problems.--- But....I did have a problem and if you do have a problem, their service or "warrenty" guys are less than professional. I am not going to "bash" anyone on here so I will leave the details out.

I do like my house and the problem I had was fixed (after a very frustrating process). But I probably won't buy one again for the very very poor customer service.

Check out Jay Soderblooms Ice Houses. Made of Aluminum so they are very light weight but still stand up to the abuse dragguing them on and off the ice can give them.

They are spray foamed and you finish them yourself. If thats something that interests you check them out at www.Soderbloom.com

Jay is a FM sponsor as well.
