I am going to post this as a reminder to everyone not to over do it. Not to do something stupid.

I was shooting last night and wanted to hit 50 yards -- so I shot neat the neighbors fence, but I was sure that I would hit my target.

Wrong.

The arrow went through his fence. Luckily nobody was in the back yard, but that would have been very, very bad.

I don't know why I thought it was a good idea, but I learned my lesson. NO MATTER HOW GOOD OF A SHOT YOU ARE, YOU CAN MISS. I did.

I am posting this so other people won't do the same dumb move.

You are very correct. One always needs to be sure you have a very safe background. The best archer in the world can miss or have an issue with his equipment and who knows where the arrow might end up.

I was using my steel machine shed door as a backdrop for very long shots. Now, I knew that no one was in the shed at the time I was shooting. I missed the target and the arrow blew right through the steel door at 40 yards. Those arrows are harder hitting than one might think.

I did the same thing, went out to 50 yards and let a couple fly. i still don't have my new bow adjusted right. Luckily i live in the country and have an oats field right behind where i like to shoot in the yard. i have put a couple arrows out there. one from forty yards out and i found it over fifty yards behind my target. thats after hitting the rock hard ground next to my target. There was another one that i could not find, luckily it did not go in a tire when it was swatted last week i would have has my a** chewed. I found it the next day, lot easier to find after the oats was cut.

That is exactly why I posted that -- I wanted people to know what can happen. Thank goodness nobody was injured because I was so SURE it would not miss and it had the fence -- DUMB.

What if the neighbor kid was behind the fence watching me. Makes Hitman angry for being so stupid.

hit man stick to your 10" walleyes and you wont have to worry about missing the target.

Good tip!! Always be sure of your background!! You never know when an arrow will go zinging off!!!

Best thing that I ever did was move my archery butt onto a hillside where if I miss the target, the arrows stick into the hill 6 feet behind. I spent plenty of time looking for arrows in the long grass in the past!!

I moved back to DL for the summer and been doing some fishing...been thinking of ya when fishing Pelican the last few weeks...lost of little ones...no big ones. Just got a nice bass tonight about 4 lbs slip bopper fishing sunnies.

When I lived in Duluth and went to UMD, we used to go shoot up the Munger Shaw road in the quarry across the railroad tracks. If you go out there you can set your target in front of one of the mounds so if you miss you'll hit dirt. Just a suggestion.

The reason i put this post up was to remind people that no matter how good you think you are you can miss.

Thanks, last year i shot my bow all summer, then when i got to school i didn't shoot it very often, if at all. I will have to check this spot out, i will be looking for a place to go and shoot my bow that is closer than where i hunt. I like to shoot outside and be able to shoot a variety of distances.
