jakemcarroll
My fiance insists on using a spincast reel when she fishes and it has been working pretty well, but is getting a little tired. I took it apart gave it fresh grease and oil, and it has new cajun (8#) line on it (Med action rod/reel combo). Over the past weekend she could still not get it to cast more than 20-25 feet, it just stops when it gets that far. There is plenty of line, no tangles, and the reel seems to be operating OK, but I have convinced her that it might just be time for a new reel, she will only use another spincast push buttom type rell cause she loves them. So I guess I am wondering if anyone has any tips on a new reel, or if there may be a better line choice to help her casting out. Thanks lots! (Any other tips are welcome too!) prov1900
You are between a rock and a hard place. I think Daiwa makes the top O' the line spin-cast reels. Maybe try going down in test, i.e., maybe 6 lb test instead of 8 lb. Try to talk her into a spinning outfit, I wish you the best of luck. Women are soooo tough!!! Got to love 'em. jakemcarroll
thanks for all the responses, this forum is so great for information. I have done some searching back in the forum and it appears that the zebco 33 is a classic that seems to work well, but the Daiwa Goldcast seems to be the top of the line. I thought I might be able to get her into a baitcaster (she just doesn't like the reel to be on the bottom of the rod), so I was wondering if there was a lower end baitcaster that I won't break the bank, and I won't feel bad setting it aside if she doesn't liek it (I only on spinning reels myself). thanks for all your great advice
Pleasant
My wife and daughter are the same way like spin cast reels. I had an old vintage Shakespeare no. 1810 under the rod spin reel that my uncle used when he was alive that I really liked for pan fishing. So I bought myself 3 Shakespeare trigger under spin rigs to use for pan fishing and now my wife, daughter and son use them pretty much all the time. Just a thought.Lynn
