Lunker
Anybody had any luck with carp at night? I always thought them to be a day time biter, and light bites as well. But on one night outing this spring, we caught a bunch of fish at like 1 am, right after a thunderstorm, and the fish were literally ripping the rods out of our rod-holders. Very un-carp like I thought.
crazyice
I tried them a couple of nights ago and had minimal sucess. And this was in a spot where we have done well in the past, but during the daylight more. So I would guess it to be more of a daytime thing. Although they do have the small whiskers which makes it easier for them to detect food in the dark.
Tyler Holm
I've noticed the carp bite turns south about 1 hour before sunset and picks up about 2 hours after sunrise for the duration of the day. It just seems I always do better when the sun in high in the sky.
Harmonica Bear
I have friend who lives on a lake and Saturday night we caught carp all night off his dock. Actually the fishing was better at midnight and beyond then it had been all day.
erickol
I have been doing a fair amount of carp fishing this season and wondered the same thing. So I went to a place where I had been catching carp regularly all throughout the day. Fished from 5am to work time (9am), caught plenty of carp. Fished mid morning, caught carp. Fished lunch time and caught carp, same with evenings.Went to the same spot from midnight to 3:30 am, thinking I might get skunked and ended up catching lots of carp.I was also getting very strong strikes by these night time fish, whereas during the day I tended to get more subtle takes (or maybe I just missed all the subtle takes at night) The average size of the fish was the same, and they also took the same two main baits that I had been daytime fishing with Oatmeal w/ strawberry jello, and a boilie recipie (although they did show a preferance to the oatmeal)I might have chummed with corn but don't remember?I plan On night fishing them at other spots where I know there are big carp, but have only had mixed results during the day. Maybe night time is the right time for some of the bigger or more pressured carp?
