Listen up all you River Rats

I don't want to hear anymore horror stories, one is enough. Please be careful out there!

The water is now at a point where you need to be extra alert and keen on reading the channel. Miss the channel and you WILL get stuck on a sandbar or worse, hit a sunken log.

If you are unfamiliar with the area you are fishing, take your time, and or reconsider adventuring, especially from Chaska upstream. A hidden rockbar is not only expensive but could be painful or worse.....

We're not quite at the level of late last fall, but it won't be long without some rain.

Rob, I wish I could find a shore spot (likely you have a few of them) that produced as many fish of the size you catch! That's crazy action. Maybe it's different there than it is here, but I know here most of the land along the MN river is private. Do you get access on private land or hunt public spots?

Dtro is right on. If you don't know the river go slow. Even if you know a stretch good it can still be tricky. Pulling in a 45lb flat is fun. Pulling in a 25 hp merc is not.

Well considering most of my fishin buddies and I dont own or use boats very often we have had a few years of hunting out shore spots. Nothing wrong with private land, just have to go ask, the worst they can say is no. But hunting down shore spots is part of the fun. There are spots that are better fished by boats and there are better spots fished from shore. If I had to choose between a good shore spot or a good boat spot I would choose shore. You cant get up and walk around, have a nice warming fire, or fish 4 people comfortably for a night in a boat. If I owned a boat it would be to get me to shore spots I cant reach by land. If you want to come down some time, we can find some shore somewhere for a night.

I have been seeing a ton of hazzards just under the surface on the graph for the last few weeks.. Its only a matter of time before things start going bump in the night.

Me... I'll be spending most of my time on the Miss or shore until we get more water(big if).. fishing dredged channels. Props arent cheap, lower units cost more, boat repairs suck, and I dont like jumping out of my boat to push it off a sand/muck bar in the middle of the night heading downstream!
