Another E collar ?

I am going to be replacing my current collar, I have a tritronics 60. Looking for something smaller what do you suggest? Would like to spend less than 350 and will only be running 1 dog with it.

I used to own a tritronics. I currently own a Dogtra 2000 T&B, which is a little more then your are looking for. But I would never go back to tritronics after owning this unit. I would seriously be looking at the Dogtra brand if I were you. I was going to by a new tritronics but Dog trainer working at Cabelas in Rogers in the training collar department said Dogtra is what she recommends to everyone.

I also have the Dogtra T&B 2000...I am VERY happy with it. It is worth every penny (so long as you hunt a pointing dog).

I do own a pointing dog but I'd say it's more for anyone who hunts pheasants. In the cattails on a windy day it can be hard to locate your dog. But with the T&B a touch of a button and you know where he/she is at. I personnally would never hunt pheasants without a beeper collar.

I was also a Tritronics guy and last year Iswitched to Dogtra. I run a 1702NCP 2 dog system. It works great. The reason I like it better are the ease of turning it on and off, better stimulus level control (0-127 I believe) the batteries seem to last longer and the smaller size of remote.

The Tritronics worked fine. I just had issues with being able to turn the unit on and off and had to send it back to the factory a couple times. Once I went through my third set of batteries in 7 years I decided it was time to upgrade. Its been a great choice so far.

For me I'm going with the sportdog collars. The trainer I've been working with showed me the tritronics, the Dogtra, Sportdog and I think one other one, innotek or something.

Anyway, for my dog (only 40-50lbs) I wanted a smaller collar and something that I can use or my wife or whoever, I really like the sportdog. Very simple to use and easy to handle. I'm getting the 800 and I think its only $200.

I only pheasant hunt and I run an english springer that has more stamina than any other dog I have hunted with.

sweept, I have an English Springer too. I just started collar training with my pup this week. Actually the trainer started it and now I'm being trained on how to use it with the dog. Its quite amazing how fast they learn what the collar is for and what you expect. He learned all the commands on a leash, but the collar helps reinforce the commands without using a leash.

The Sportdog 800 was suggested to me for my springer because of its size. Its smaller and not as heavy since my springer is only gonna be in the 40-45lb range. No need for a big beefy battery dragging his head down.

Well, I know quite a few folks who use the TriTronics Sport 50 collars and they love 'em. Mainly using them on Labs the work waterfowla and birds. Apparently pretty trouble-free and simple.

I KNOW from personal experience that the TriTronics people are sure helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to get the right stuff to you and stand behind it and in today's world THAT is worth a lot!!

I got the Sportdog this Spring with the 1 mile range ($250.00). For the most part I'm satisfied. The only real issue is the caps where the charger plugs into do not appear snug enough to keep moisture/rain/water out, in my opinion. Maybe they are just fine. The unit came with several replacement caps, so I'm thinking this might be an issue. Otherwise it does just what I need it to do, variable corrections with high and low, momentary or continous, tone only button, 1 mile range, etc.

I wouldnt worry about the dogs size so much. I hunt 38 lb red setters who have NO problems with the Dogtra T&B. I dont know if a flushing dog really needs the locator so much though so you could probably get away with a standard e collar. Dogtra is a great option.
