Qualifying cancelled

Recommended Posts

Looks to me like Boris had a bad day because of the rain. I guess no points today for qualifying. This will put some out of the race(55) and will move the faster boys up front.

Seems like the cars that needed to do well qualified in qualifing trim and the rest in race trim. Sure makes a difference in lap times.

Go Junior.

Yeah, the forecast doesn't look real promising tonight or tomorrow night, but I hope they can get them in under the lights instead of during the middle of the day. I don't care if they start at 10pm. It's Daytona baby!

All the go-or-go-homers ran in qualify trim and it's funny how some of them are so out of touch with reality trying to spin the story that they qualified very well. Yeah right. They did the same thing at Talladega. Then they complain how those who qualified at the top don't make the race and some rules need to be changed. Get a grip!

I am surprised at your coments. I myself have been a hendrichs suporter. Their drivers are in regardless. I like seeing the ones outside of the regulars having a chance to make the race. In this race I would give a Boris Said nearly as much chance as a Gordon.

I still think that all 43 possitions should be from Quilifing times. No garentees for a starting possition.

When qualifying is rain out I dont know what other way there would be to line up the cars. The reward the ones that have done well to date for the current season and a few other ways such as past champions.

Its a shame Boris had the pole, now isn't even in the race. Thats just plain wrong. There has got to be a better way. I think Past provisionals are talk. Should Richard Petty be able to show up at Daytona with a primer grey car, slap a number on the side and use a "champions provisional" and get to run in the race?

If all racers would have qualified with a qualifying set up, Boris I would safely say would have been probably a ways further back.

I dont know what else they can do, seems the only fair way is to reward the ones that have done the best.

When teams get good enough and are one of the faster teams then they usually dont even have to worry about this issue.

Nascar needs to do more to get qualifing done!! A few years back they would finish the next mourning, was out in Vegas one time and sat threw two rain delays in qualifing, finished about 11 that nite. now if it rains to bad so sad. Was listening to qualifing on sirius radio, Jeffy and Matty were really whining about starting back so far, guess things worked out good for them.

I agree that maybe they could try harder if there is time to do so. For the plate tracks it really doesnt matter as you can win from 20th in the last lap.

For the cars that didnt make, maybe next year when they might be a little better. Everyone needs to pay thier dues so there are times when they will get the shaft.

There are no guarantee's in racing.

That is exactly what I was talking about. No, it's not wrong. You've got guys who don't have a guaranteed spot and so they run a qualifying set-up to do two laps set on "kill" while the others who do have a spot locked up are running their race package since it was an impound race. Apples and oranges.

To say that Said, Waltrip, K. Wallace, and other scrubs who out-qualified the top notch guys (with different qualifying set-ups) and deserve to race because of the times they ran is wrong. Had the qualifying not been rained out, they would have been struggling at the beginning of the race with their different set-ups and would have went to the back in short order anyway. The times they ran were all a mirage and not comparable to the others. Boris' time looked good on paper, but it wasn't as realistic as it appeared.

With a crystal ball like yours, I am surprised you don't play the lottery more often.

Not hard to predict that. There is a reason why there is a "qualifying package" and a "race package" and also a reason why you use one or the other depending if it is a impound race or not.

If they were running the same package across the board, my crystal ball says that Boris Said, Wallace, and Waltrip wouldn't have been in the top 10 when qualifying was over. smirk.gif

Remember last year when Said was leading during the last laps during this same race? He did the exact same thing, started the race with a qualifying set-up, during his first pit stop they changed the whole set-up (front springs, wedge, etc....) Do you remember where he finished? 4TH!!!! So don't say that just because he is running a "Qualifying package" he will run bad. He was planning to do the same thing this race and got SCREWED!!!!

I guess we'll never know now. If he had a quality car and earned his way in like everyone else does, then we wouldn't have to wonder about it now would we? wink.gif

I surely dont care to agrue but if he had some points from during this race season he wouldnt need to worry. The lowest teams with points go. Just like Mikey.

NASCAR cannot change the rules every time someone doesnt make it. They would be changing every week for some reason.

I wouldn't have cared if they actually tried to finish qualifying, heck they could have rescheduled it for after the Busch race today, the Busch guys qualify and race in the same day all the time. Lately it really seems like Nascar is catering to the rich guys and leaving the ones without the unlimited funds behind.

The problem with running or finishing it another day or even worse after a race is you are giving the next days qualifyiers a huge advantage. I would much rather qualify with rubber on a track or maybe a cooler track at another time.

Nascar tries to have all cars run under conditions as close as possible to keep it fair.

Didn't realize this was the last restrictor plate race with the car of today. Would've been kinda cool to take the restrictors off. Any guesses on speed? 230+?

Thats what dale Sr always stated he wanted to do is take the plate off. I'm afraid that when the accident happenned, many would be hurt bad due to the higher speeds.

I would agree that 230 + would be possible.

I remember either Rusty Wallace or Dale Earnhardt saying they did run without the plate "just to try it" and they went over 230 MPH....and that was with those older, boxy cars not the smoothed over ones like today!

Don't know if that was at Daytona or Talladega, but I'm guessing it was 'Dega.

I had this idea with my brother: 25 lap qualifying heat race Sunday noon for all non-locked in cars for the last spots.

Simple, right? Then they would be in the back of the field where all the regulars want them.
