Motorguide PTSv109

Question

I was wondering if anyone out there has one of these and if they like it or not? I got one a while ago and finally put it on my buddy's boat a few weeks ago (it was too big to put on my 14' duck boat). So far I like the motor, even though it does have about a half second delay when you push the pedal. I think part of the reason I like the motor is because the only thing I have ever had was Motorguide and I am used to the front-to-back pedal, where people who are used to Minnkota are used to the side-to-side pedals. I haven't had much chance to use the depth track yet as we haven't fished deeper than about 10' all year and the lake we have been fishing doen't have very defined breaklines in it. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with these, how you used them, and if they worked for you.

Thanks for any input.

Lenny

I am going to follow this very closely.

I didn't know of these motors, if they work as they say on paper they should be awesome.

Keep feedback coming....

Those things sound amazing.. pricey! I wonder how could it works... there's a lot of strange topography out there and I can't imagine how it can follow a certain contour unless there's a human brain in it.

So far we have had okay luck with it. You need sometype of break in order for the depth track to work good, it didn't seem to want to track straight on shallow flats (<7' deep). It also didn't seem to work too good in weeds, I think it thought every weed was a breakline. One of my buddies friends had one and his only problem was when he was on Sak. he pulled up on a boulder about the size of his boat and it wanted to go in circles. Other than that, my only complaint is the over-aggressive steering, and the poor design on the pedal; I keep bumping the off switch. I do have a quick fix for that though, I'm just going to disconnect it for now.

I use to have a pinpoint 2700,this model was depth track only.I loved this motor while it lasted. Some problems with them staying on track were working in larger waves and as stated above,if on a flat you might as well steer manually. It would also go off track if going at faster speeds on sharp turns on a break.Hopefully Motorguide worked out some of the bugs on the new motors,Im happy with my Maxim now so I probably wont go back to the PTS series. But if you want a motor that can work a specific depth all by its self while you fish, thats what the PTS will do.

I have a Pinpoint (predecessor) that had all the goodies; shore track, depth track, channel track, etc. It worked OK as long as there was sufficient contour definition as you mention.

Unfortunately, it got water in the brain and wasn't economically feasable to repair. Fortunately, I got it for a fraction of new price via a Cabela's bargain cave closeout. I got a few good years out of it, anyway.
