beretta
Hey guys,I am just about done with college and I am looking for a place for my girlfriend and I to go on vacation. Were looking at coming up in August sometime (I know its not the best time for fishing but she has to go back to school in Sept.) Were looking for a place where we can do a little camping and a little fishing. We dont need to catch 10 pound walleyes and 45 inch northerns or anything. Im just looking for a place with some peace and quiet where I can keep my girlfriend on the fish. She likes to catch walleyes but I think she'd enjoy smallmouths as well. We have a 17 ft Lund, and/or a canoe to use so we have a lot of options. I have never fished in Canada before so I dont have a clue. We are willing to travel a ways so distance isnt really an issue. Thanks for any help you can give us.
Hermit
A trip into Canada for the first time with the girlfriend can be a real learning experience! You may see things unveiled in her character that you would'nt have expected. May I suggest keeping away from any bugs, don't go out if it's too warm, too cold, windy or raining. Fishing for a couple hours around home is not at all like fishing for a week in Canada! Couple of suggestions...........stay at a motel in a town such as Kenora, Dryden, International Falls/Fort Frances, Ignace, Nestor Falls or Sioux Lookout. You can always leave (meaning you're not locked in for a week as you would if you stay at a cabin/camp) should any "unfavorable circumstances" present themselves. If you want to get away from a lot of other fisherman, I'd recommend the Ignace area. Lake trout, walleye and northerns. Lake of the Woods is world class but coming in green could be a little overwhelming as to where to get started.......if you fished out of Nestor Falls you'de definetly see a lot of other fisherman but there is some pretty good walleye, smallie, musky and pike fishing in Sabaskong bay before the bloom comes on. Rainy Lake will put out eater walleyes all day long with some pretty good smallie fishing and 2-6 pound pike.I hope I did'nt scare you or sound too negative, but be warned........when things are'nt peachy, you may see a side unlike you've never seen before. If you can get thru a week in Canada with her and you're both just as happy and bubbly coming back into the states as when you went into Canada you'de better hang on to her, because you've got a good one. Good Luck!!
HAppnhook
.......And thus the name Hermit...........A buddy and I went into theboundry waters for 2-nights, three days and had cold soda, and fresh steak. Ran into a group of guys that had taken wives and girlfriends for a 6-day 35 mile jaunt for the first time. We heard the bickering the night before we headed out, and had to show them the way in to the launch and then offered them a cold beer, soda, water, and left over steak. I think the statement that said it all was "you have cold soda?" The guys shrank into their shells. After chatting with them, they all loved the idea for the first 2-3 days, it was after that that they showed that they were women indeed. Do a little bit of everything and you will have a ball!
HAppnhook
Oh, and to answer yourr question, we go to Beuna Vista in Morson. I think they have camping as well as motel and cabin units. Have gone there for years and they can put you on fish. Its really a well run, relaxed place and not to far into Canada. You can check them out on Google. Down Deep
What kind of camping do you want to do. Northwestern Ontario has restricted remote camping almost everywhere.
FISHINGFARMER
Beretta: Here is a link for you and your girlfriend to check out. Since you are going in August sometime you should have plenty of time to recieve the guide and the both of you can enjoy the time together looking at places and deciding on your own which would "fit" your style of camping and fishing. www.ontariossunsetcountry.ca/camping.cfm This guide takes only a couple of weeks to arrive to your door. Good luck in finding that camping and fishing spot you and yours wants. Farmer
MuskyBrian
remote camping is not an easy thing to do for Non Ontario residents...you have to be a certain distance away from shore or any resorts/houses....it's very hard to do.....That leaves you with resorts that offer RV's/Tenting...but then you ask yourself, if you aren't really "getting away" is camping really worth it. Fireman13
Try Buena Vista resort.http://www.buenavistaresort.com/locationBVR.htmlIf you want info on remote camping on the lake, they issue permits and can likely point you to were you can camp. Otherwise, they have a decent camping area with nice clean shower house, etc. It's family owned and there is an 800 number to call. Been going there for 20 years. Great fishing usually and lots of islands to hide from wind. I know many people who have camped on islands in Miles Bay.Have fun!
nitroant
I would look into a place called Press Lake Fishing Camp. They have spots to camp at and also have cabins, but are most often filled. Jerry is a great host and you will find plenty of walleye to keep her interested. They are not the biggest walleye, but always interested in tugging on your line. The body of water has very few cabins on it and offers many options for fishing including getting on a few rivers. The drive is the killer. I think its probably 10 hours from here, up near Ignace. Its a pretty simple place, but clean and well run and the best sand swimming beach I have seen in Canada, but in September you probably won't feel the need to swim. Hope you find what your looking for.
