What depth?

Recommended Posts

Last couple of weeks I was nailing them in 4-9 feet of water right in the weeds/weed line. went out to the hot spot and only gettting the bass now. tried up to 16-18 feet of water, should I go to 25 ft? Start hitting the structure.

Shallow at dawn/dusk, deeper during the heat of the day. They are out in the cooler water during the day. Drift w/ that slipbobber rig and you should pick up something (not always a walleye, but something)..

I think what you meant was, it depends what LAKE your fishing...

It seems to me like the shallower lakes the fish just don't mind being shallower & the deeper lakes, they tend to stay deeper. It seems backwards to me, as it would seem the shallows would be cooler in a deeper lake, but maybe it's a matter of the environment they're adjusted to.

I understand that, but aren't most of your lakes shallow down there?

There's some lakes up here that the majority of my fish come from under 10'. There are other lakes where the majority come from 15' or more.

Average depths on most 'eye lakes around here is between 15 - 20' deep. We have a few lakes that are 55'+ while other barely crest the 12' mark. However, I find most of the 'eyes relating to cover in 1 - 4' of water during the open water season.

When you are talking "cover" are you mostly referring to weeds?

When your fishing eyes shallow whats your rig of choice?

I've heard stories of walleyes just hammering topwater plugs! I've caught them shallow before but mainly by accident when casting a jig with a beatle spin and 3-4" twister tail.
