Some '07 WI turkey harvest stats

Got these from a bud, must be the latest stats on the past WI turkey season the DNR has...just a quick recap:

Season A: 12,055 killed 35% success rate

Season B: 10,208 30%

Season C: 8,395 24%

Season D: 7,842 23%

Season E: 7,444 22%

Season F: 6,435 20%

Total: 52,379 26%

One thing I'm curious about is how many tags they issue each season - anyone know? Nonetheless I believe the success rate is about the norm the past few years likewise the total kill, maybe a hair higher than last year but think these numbers are gonna be the norm for a while. Only a few areas up north yet with expanding pops.

With stats like that I might have to add WI to my back to back turkey hunts .

I hunted the first year Wisconsin had a season, I think it was in '80 or '81. We were all pretty excited then that there were 5,000 birds in the whole state. Now we shoot over 50,000. WOW!

Right on par with historical kills, maybe a tad lower. Good to see though. Keep these in your back pocket whenever someone tells you it's an easy hunt.

The problem with WI (unless you're a resident), is that those numbers can be deceiving. We tend to look at the overall avg. success at 26%, and are bolstered by the 35% success rate in season A. However, you've got 4 of 6 seasons below 25%. For non-residents, 8 of 10 walk out of the woods without a turkey over their shoulders.

Residency has its priveledges, and so it should; my point is that those numbers say a great deal about how difficult it can be to kill a turkey!

The trick for non-residence is to apply for the first weekend of May - fishimg opener. We have always drawn for this time period in zone 19.
