Whats at the bottom?

I got a kick out of MJ5's post about his buddy dropping the auger down the hole. I thought it would humorous to know what else is laying at the bottom of the lakes. I know I have 2 rods and reels, 1 ice scoop, a tin of split shot weights, and a maglite flashlite laying on the bottom of numerous lakes. The camera has helped retreive some stuff but thats whats still down there from over the years. C'mon spill it, no need to be embarassed. wink.gif Well, we'll see

That little nut that holds my lantern together. Very small but very important. Always happens just before dark.

Makes that sound you hate to hear:

Full beer cans here and there...

Radio in Big Stone Lake

My wife's new (at the time) cell phone in Lake Bemidji. That was an expensive phone plan in one week! (they do work after sinking....I managed to do it drop the replacement phone later that year, but recovered the 2nd one!) Those phones always find their way to the holes. Still works fine today....

One of the rods metioned earlier, Was the victim of an angry walleye on mille lacs. Lets just say I haven't perfected my dead sticking techniques. Luckily, I got out of my house and saw my bobber through the ice and was able to get the rod back.

I dropped a 2lb crappie down the hole. Cried for a week. And to add injury to insult, my dad caught a 2lb crappie about five minutes later that looked pretty simliar which is now sitting on the wall with the words "DAD'S FISH" underneath it. Everytime I see it a tear comes to my eye.
Oh yeah, and I dropped an ice scoop and numerous jigs but nothing too expensive.
Good Fishin, Matt.

I lost that little black piece that holds the camera cable on my OVS, I was wondering earlier that day if it would sink, it does.
Had a buddy with a snoot full digging around his ice hole on Millacs at Jerry Brandts, I asked what he was doing, he said " I think I dropped my glasses under the house or maybe down the hole." Guess which one it was! Funnier than hell!

Rule number 77 of Murphy's Law says that anything dropped on a fish house floor will go down the hole. That's why when I am shopping for various items to use ice fishing, if it says, "floats" on the package mark it sold.

Wow, There sure is a lot of stuff on the lake bottoms out there.

Last year a bunch of us from the Shanty Gang were tip up fishing pike on Caliper lake just south of Nestor Falls, Ontario.

I was the last vehicle to come off the lake, and there was a big hump to go over on the bank with deep snow. I did not want to hammer my truck too hard, so I hit the bank a bit slower that I should have. The rear axel started hopping, I got out of the wheel ruts, and I was stuck.

After about 20 minutes and a tow from WalEYES, I was able to get backed up out on to the lake and take another run at it. This time I carried a lot of speed and when I hit the bank everything that was not tied down in the cab seemed to be floating in mid air. I was glad to be off the lake.

I went inside with the rest of the guys and ordered a beer. After a few minutes, I ran out to get my new digital camera to look at the photos from the day. Well, I had left it on the dash, but it was not there when I opened the door. With a sinking feeling, I looked down at the five gallon bucket that had the minnows in it. DOHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

WallEYES
You should have got behind him, and pushed him FARTHER into the snow bank....That would have been a goot payback for him feeding me that Lutefisk out on LOW !!

Gissert,
Here's a pic. from the camera, just so you feel better !!

Great Thread!

Guess I've been pretty lucky <knocking on virtual wood> - the most I've had go down a hole has been a mag-lite and some lures, sinkers, etc.

Not to say that I've not had a close call or two - the worst was last winter when I was looking right down a hole, and my eye-glasses started to slide off my face.

I'm just plain blind w/o them, and had I lost them, it would have been a long walk home.

Now, I've got a head strap for them, and it goes along all the time - soft water or hard.
