What's an Ice House???

Kingfisher

Recommended Posts

When I was a kid an ice house was a building in which to store up ice in the winter so it could be delivered in the summer to places that were in need of ice for their ice boxes to keep things cool like milk etc. In fact, today the Holiday Inn at Detroit Lakes is standing on the ground of an old ice house, they have named their dining area after it and it is called "The Ice House".

In those days when we fished in the winter we fished in what we called a fish house, not an ice house, which would have been confusing.

Today we fish on the ice in a shelter and it is called an ice house. It must be time to start calling our fishing boats water boats.

When I was a kid days were 100 hours long and a 2lb northern was about 5ft long.

Fish house insinuates that you are catching fish. Sitting house or beer house is more appropriate.
