Navionics help

I got the Premium Hotmaps for a Lowrance depth finder with Gps and have some questions before I go out. I got the chip in and is there anything I have to program in to find the lake or location I am at. Also I used the red black and white power supply wires that go to the battery is that what I should have connected? The other ones were the Nmea 2000 and a data cable wires. Also let me know about any settings I should change and figuring out the gps and plotting waypoints. Do most people leave the Lowrance depth finder on or is there something to put over it traveling?

Ok lots of questions there. First on the chip for Navionic chips you do have to do a setting change. You go in the menu and find the map data page. Got in there the there is a spot that has map type or something like that. The default setting is Lowrance you then select the area you are in here it might be NWMN or NEMN something like that.

As for wiring your should just use the red and black the white I am pretty sure doesn't get connected to anything it is just loose. For the Receiver to get power you need to connect the NMEA red and black get connected you need to connect these to a switched power supply as the receiever will continue to draw current even with the unit is shut off.

As for your last question I am not sure I fully understand as for traveling with my depthfinder on the boat I don't. I know many people do but I don't feel the need to risk damaging it. I use ram mounts so it is quick to disconnect everything. If you are just talking about the white cover for Lowrance unit no don't leave those on while travling as they will blow off. Cabelas makes a neoprene cover that would hold on pretty good for traveling. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, is there a list somewhere I can see which lakes are in a specific region? Also mine is the Lms 334c internal gps if that makes a difference for wires.

I dunno if they have a list of lakes.. thats a good question.. I'm sure they do somewhere... I just keep guessing till a map shows up on my screen.. LOL

Go to Navionics home page and click on the chip you have. They have a list of lakes for every state but i don't believe the lakes are broken down into specific areas within a state. I know I printed them all off and keep them in a 3 ring binder.

Another tid bit of advice,,,go to Lowrance's web site and download the emulator for the unit you have and tinker with it for a while to get used to menu/pages functions,,,good thing to do when its thundering and lightning

Capmorgan, iffwallyes is right! You must connect both red power wires to power the depth finder AND the GPS. The NMEA 2000 power wire should be on a switched power source so the network, which in ON all the time does not drain your battery. Both black wires and the bare shield wire should be grounded. The white wire is for an external speaker and should not be connected. Be sure to tape it off well. All of your multi-colored data wires must be taped off individually or they can cause malfunction with your GPS signal, especially over time when electrolysis sets in. There are several differant regions on your Navionics chip. You will need to go in to Map Data in your Lowrance menu and recall the specific area that you are fishing. (ie. No. MN, So. MN, Dakotas, WI, etc.) Pretty easy after you figure it out the fist time. Good luck and have fun with your new toy. Greg

Red is plus, black is minus. Don't forget to use the inline fuse holder.

If you are having trouble getting it to power up, check the fuse...(or put a fuse in it).

If you have an internal antenna (334), I don't think you have to worry about the NMEA 2000 power wires.

I figured it out, just had to zoom in a ways when it shows the United States. I seen it had the paths I went around a lake the last times I fished, how do I delete them?

From the map screen, hit Menu -> Menu -> My Trails. Once there you have options to delete your trails, or you can make them not visible.
