looking at a 16 ft. Alumacraft with a 60 hp Evinrude. Am curious if something like that is enough for our kids to ski behind. Total weight of the four of us is less than 600 lbs and the biggest skier would be approx. 150 lbs. I'm guessing it will be fine for occasional skiing. I realize we won't be setting any speed records but probably all the boat I can afford at this time.

Heck - I used to ski behind a 40hp johnson on a 16' lund WS-16 (flat floor, covered bow, bench seats - no livewell, etc). If you knew how to get up you could do it, but if you were starting out it wasn't easy to get up.

You should be ok... it might not pop you out of the water the easiest, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Yep, we have old ('82) merc 50 hp (which is like a newer 40-45hp) on a 16' Alumacraft Classic 16. We used to ski a ton with it in high school and beyond, and we still have it, use it mainly for duck hunting and some fishing now. But I know for a fact that a fat guy (220+) can still get up behind it on two skis, with a light load, haha! So for smaller folks and a newer 60hp motor, you will fly smile.gif

Have fun!

I skied behind a 16' Lund Rebel with a 50 HP on it. I'm over 200 lbs and just had to get up on 2 skis but then I could drop one. We pulled skiers, tubes, etc. all over the lake with no trouble and 4 people in the boat. You should do fine with that 60 HP.

When I was a kid and we weighed all of 70lbs wet we used to start out on one ski behind a 12' alum boat with a 9.9 motor. We used to do a shallow water start (knee deep) and have some slack in the rope so the boat could start to atleast move some.
