Skeg Repair in South Central Minnesota

My Dad is bringing his boat on our group trip to Canada this fall. It has a new 2006 60hp tiller with a missing skeg. He took it off a week after he got the boat.

The steering has a wicked turn to the left when you let go of the handle. My Dad is not good about keeping his eye on the water and hand on the tiller handle. He has almost tossed me out of the boat more then once while digging for a sandwich.

I am going to make him put a new skeg on before the Canada trip. Any good shops that can do the job in South Central Minnesota? He lives in the Mankato area. Otherwise I will bring the boat up to the metro area....so any suggetions up here would be helpful as well.

I got mine fixed at Ickler in St. Cloud. They did a great job. Very reasonable.

I moved from the area several years ago but there was a welding shop(can't remember the name) on the corner of Webster Ave and Range St. in North Mankato. They did lots of that type work, prop and skeg repair and replacement. If it's still there it would be a good place to try. Good luck. Old Sneller

There is Ron Seur welding in New Pregue. He did mine early this spring. Ron is ex-union welder for Northwest airlines(He is good and fair)

I had skeg on my I/O repaired a couple of years ago at a welding shop on south side of Waseca. This shop also repaired props. Can't remember the name, but sure it is the book.
