spearchucker
Did everyone see that they want to (they may already have) increase the ATV registration fee from $30 to $45?
Scott K
That must be for all the trail systems here in mn. What a joke!
swedishpimple
Somebody has to pay for all of those signs on the ATV trails telling the ATV riders they can't ride there.Just like the snowmobile trails...humm 45 for three years and oh yeah...we want to allow horses and bikers and walkers on for free, so we can pave the trail and kick you off, then charge another 15 per year for a trail sticker.Join your local atv and snowmobile club and start to fight back. SKEETER-B
Thats the craps, at least you guys up north have trails to ride. We have the stupid agricultural regs to deal with. Half the year we can hardly ride because someone might want to bail a stupid ditch!!!!!!!!!!
swedishpimple
Well..MN needs to charge the farmers for their use of the ditches/trails for hayland. See how that goes over.
castmaster
Actually the Ag restrictions have more to do with ground nesting birds, such as pheasants, being disturbed than it does to do with baling ditches. As for charging farmers to bale ditches, many counties charge them if they DO NOT mow the ditches. Its one of those dumb things here in MN, people more worried about car/deer collisions and such that they want the ditches cut back.

Yes, that's what it is for.....the birds. It is the same as your boulevard. It's not yours, but you have to mow it. Or the end of your driveway. You don't own it, but you have to take care of it. Another thing is trees. The are supposed to be trimmed back off the right of way. 33 ft. from center of road.
swedishpimple
Things are a little different "Up Nort" here. Half of our roads have trees growing within the R.O.W. If you are too close to the Rez and hay the ditch you need to pick up your bale as soon as you make it or by the next morning it will be a smoldering mess to deal with. Some of our ditches we can ride....some of them are wetland. In Marshall and Roseau County they want you to ride on the road and not the ditch. The ditches there are basically rivers and nobody ever drives on most of the roads....it is great. It doesn't make sense that you can't ride your ATV in a ditch because of nesting birds, but a farmer can bail the whole thing. Bailing a ditch is guaranteed to kill nesting birds. castmaster
I dont know where all this bailing in ditches is going on. Also WHEN is it happening?? Any place I know of has mowing restrictions until August that requires landowners to mow the INSIDE SLOPE(the roadside slope) and FORBIDS mowing of any other part of the ditch. These mowing restriction dates coincide with the Ag restriction dates as far as I know. Is it different where your at?
knoppers
I like the increase only if 100 percent of them dollers goes to making more trails.the ditches have special regs till august to protect nesting pheasants, and that also applys to any haying.
