Angel Eyes!!!!

Recommended Posts

SPent the past four days fishing on Lake of the Woods in Buffalo Bay. I decided to really give the Angel eye a test! My steadfast for years has been the NOrthland Buckshot. Well, to make a long story short, I never tied a buck shot on!

The hammered gold Angel eye proved highly successful!! After getting use to it, I soon realized just how lovely this little bugger works!

When lifted high, dropping it slow with an occasional twitch as it drops, active walleye could NOT resist! I never once jigged below 2 feet off of the bottom. The active fish always came up to meet the "Pretty Little Angel Eye", sometimes 6-7 feet off of the bottom!!!

The Angel eye shows on your vexilar nicely and the suttle resistance assists in fine tuning your jigging technique!!!

Hmmmmmmmm! Think it's time to go buy more of the gold.(One store in Baudette was completely out of the Gold ANgel eye!)

Give them a try!! Your rod WILL bend when tied with an Angel Eye by Scenic Tackle!!

Jim, you are right. That hammered Gold is hot on lake of the woods. Duck-O-Holic used the Angel Eye Jr's. all weekend during the tournament and did real well. I think he used Hammered Gold, All Glow and Pink/Glow. Not sure which one worked best for him but I recall the Pink/Glow being used the most.

The walleye were really spanking them and it outfished almost everything we threw at them. As you said, usually meeting it about 4-6 feet off the bottom.

The other hot bait was a Perch/Glow (I call it the Perch Jigger) spoon made by Scenic Tackle. I have been using this same spoon all year and it was the ticket on Mille Lacs this year. I was anxious to give it a try on LOW. It was HOT! I am not sure what the real name of the spoon is but I keep about 12 of them in my tackle box. It has become one of those lures that you want to have lots of just in case you can't find them anywhere. Maybe Jeff Beckwith will let us know what it is called. I would definetly recommned adding it to your Walleye Aresenal.ScottS

Hey Scott,
Your not far off on the name of that spoon. It's simply called the Perch Spoon. That little spoon is fantastic for all species and walleyes love them when they are biting a little light. It has a subtle action but still attracts a lot of fish.

As for the Angel Eye "family", those spoons have simply been the hottest lure going this year (and past years for those who already knew about this lure). I've caught everything from pike to walleyes to crappies and just about any other fish that swims. They have the best action I have ever seen on a jigging spoon. They flutter so much I get frustrated when I catch a fish then have to wait so long for it to get back down to the fish.

Thanks Jeff, keep up the good work!

I couldn't agree more. On the way from from LOW Rick, his son Joe, and myself stopped and Fished URL. The hot ticket was the pink and white angel eye jr. The crappies were really hugging the bottom. We would jig it once or twice right on the bottom, then rip it up a foot or two,the key was to keep it glowing. You could see them on the Vex racing up to nail it. What a blast!!! I think we made a few of those Illinois boys believers in Scenic Tackle. Had to leave a few of those Angels with them when we left. grin.gif

Well maybe we should just change the name to the Perch Jigger! That way I don't have to change what I call it grin.gif HEHE

I am still going to call it the Perch Jigger. I kind of like that name.ScottS

Glad to hear you guys like the products!!! The jigging spoons that ScottS is talking about is listed under the "Jigging Spoons" and it is the Perch/Fire-tiger pattern. It appears on the picture up-side down for some reason. I need to look in to that one!

The Walleye Perch Kit here has the Perch Spoon (Jigger in it). It also has 6 Angel Eyes in it. If you get that and the Angel Eye Jr's you will have a very effective arsenal.

Congratulations ScottS and Duck-a-holic on your Iceleaders Championship. It is very gratifying hearing that you used Scenic Tackle to win the event against some very stiff competition.

You can see the Walleye Perch Kit and the Angel Eye Jrs at:

This tackle really works!!!

It was the only thing that caught fish for us on both LOW and Upper Red Lake and only half of our lines down had Scenic tackle on them. The rest had the other popular tackle on them and we kept trying differant things just to give it a fair test. (I take that back, we did catch one crappie on a glow green ice jig).

Now other lures may out-perform the angel eyes or Walleye Perch Kit items from time to time, but I sure won't go out anymore without having my Walleye Kit and my Angel Eye Jrs along.

I purchased the Angle Eyes after hearing so many good comments. I tried the jigs while double anchored in the evening and caught several crappies and a couple of walleyes here in New Jersey. Unfortunately we don't have any ice so I didn't get to try them through the holes. I can't wait for our tournaments to give them another try I don't think too many fisherman in NJ are aware of them. Thanks for the terrific forum. Its great to try ideas from other areas of the country

Sounds like the Angel Eyes/Jrs. do very well for you guys. I tried the Northland Forage Minnow for crappies this weekend with some success. Are they similar? I plan on making an order. Do they sell any of the Angel Jrs at local tackle or just through this site? Good luck fishing all.

Forage Minnows have there place in my tackle box but they have not seen the water for about 2 months. They are nothing like the Angel Eye though. The Angel Eye is a very light spoon that has a special "flutter" when it falls. Everyone should have some Angel Eye Jr's in there tackle box.

The Perch Jigger, is a spoon that would be more like a Forage Minnow, it is just much better. It has a much better hook, and it works great. I don't think I have to say any more about them. They get the highest endorsement I can give a product.ScottS

Yes the Angel Eyes work Great! Most other lures are jigged srtaight up and come straight down. The Angel eye has awesome flutter action on the way down. I made some guides believers on LOW last winter. I even caught a 7" walleye with it. Even a walleye that small hit it hard. Have Fun, Bruce Mosher

7 inches...I got ya beat with one this year that musta not quite made it to the 3 inch mark! I think that perch colored one is maybe my new "favorite" spoon on LOW, love the flutter. Other spoons with this "super" flutter action that I like are Williams Wabblers and those Pheobe's which I cannot find anywhere anymore, and I am running low on them now. These spoons with the bigtime flutter are the ticket at times indeed, they catch everything. Hopefully I will catch a day out on the traverse reefs this summer when the wind is flat, I would bet they will be awesome vertical jigging over the rocks too.
