I will be renting a Budget rental moving truck in June from Indiana to MN. HSOforum says a four day rental and I only need it for two. I called a local Budget office to ask if there will be a pro-rated price if the truck is returned less than the four day rental and they said no. What's up with that? Does this sound right? Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Try also Penske Rental or Uhaul for 1 way rentals.

Did you try calling shop directly ? I think the web site automatically quotes 4 days time lenght to move to MN, unload and return it.

Can you rent it by the day ? Also have you quoted local renting with mileage ?

Just take your time driving and use up the four days.

If it's going to cost too much, look for a beater enclosed trailer, buy it for $1500 or less, and use that. Then when you're done moving, sell it for $1000 +/-.

I had a couple approach me once, was wondering if my trailer was for sale. I'm the type of guy that anything is for sale for the right price.

I had a 1997 Classic 24' enclosed trailer that I'd paid about $5500 for new, in '97. It had roughly 75-80k miles on it, it had been used for lawn care for 7 years. It was getting tough looking on the inside. Outside, all the metal was fine, except for a gash of 5" on one side.

Anyways, I said sure, $4,000. They then asked if they could have it by the following weekend.

Anyways, long story short, it was going to cost them about $2500 to move everything they needed to move to Arizona. Renting a U-Haul, with a trailer, it was still going to take 2 trips.

With my trailer, they could fit everything in one trip, and then they planned on selling the the trailer for $2000-3000 once they got to Arizona.

Look around, there's TONS of guys that have bought enclosed trailers lately, either getting into some sort of business that didn't work out, or just for personal use that they decide they don't need anymore.

If you've got a little time yet, maybe you could find one cheap enough that you could buy, then dump for about the same money once you get to IN???

I will say though, IN is the trailer capital of the world.... probably 60-75% of the trailers built, come out of that area, so you'll be bringing it into a flooded market, if you decide to go that route.
