Fish cleaning in a fish house

i just wanted to know if it is legal to clean fish in a fish house while on the ice my fishing partner claims he heard somewhere it is illegal but i have never read anything about this in the rules and regs can somebody help me out on this thank you and good day!

I went to the MnDNR site & looked over the 2002 regulations. This is the only info I could find that addresses your question.

Note: border waters also contain special regs.

If you consume any fish during your time on the ice, or shore. they must be included in your daily limit for the day.

It should also be mentioned that you need to take the fish guts with you. It is against the law to leave them on the ice or throw them down the hole.

You should also be aware that it is illegal to clean any fish in a house on the lake if there is a slot limit of any kind on that that fish on that lake. So on Mille lacs you can not legally clean Walleye as an example.

The notion of measuring a fish I've consumed while on the ice conjures up some amusing images. Do you suppose the DNR has some type of conversion scale to calculate approximate length of fish re size of turd?

LOL Good stuff! I think back on all those walleye we ate in the sleeper house at 2 AM on LOW-washed down with quite a few beverages. I don't know if there is a ruler that could measure those the next day!ScottS

Check out the Captain Stubby's Fish Cleaning Buddy. I think they are advertised on this site. I thought I saw them the other day in the products section. I have one and they are the slickest cleaning tool for those "tough" places. It hooks right on your vehicle, boat trailer, etc and gives you a great cleaning surface. The best part is it has a holder for a plastic bag so you can take all the guts with you, and that makes you legal.ScottS

People shouldn't be leaving "Turds on the ice". This is just plain gross, not to mention contamination of the lake.

Yeah, at least it's all natural though. There's not propane canisters or beer cans in there. Does muskrat stool contaminate? I wouldn't worry about something so trivial, I just said it for fun, so if you gotta go, use a scooper to pick up after yourself.

Oh Man!
Turds & guts left on the ice! This could be a seperate thread. I think back to the days of my youth(not that I'm old) and I could come up a long list of things left on the ice (not all on purpose)....Sorry.... Just stay within your daily limits , pay attention to special regs., and enjoy. If you play by the rules it's much easier to have a good time.

How about all those lake homes with outdated septics seeping into the lakes, or all the Scotts turf builder plus on the manicured lawns washing in. Now that's REAL contamination!! I'll dump inside if givin' the choice,---but... Just use common sense and cover it. My 2$.
