Abrams / Minnetaki lake levels

Recommended Posts

I am heading up to Minnetaki in early June and I was just wondering on lake levels. Will I be able to run up the chutes into taki or is the water level to low. I know that it was really bad last fall but have not heard if it has gone up this spring. I just got a new boat last fall and I am a little worried about taking out the lower unit going up the chutes. I run a 115 so I need a little water to run in. Any information would be great

Thanks

I heard that last fall you could walk across the chutes except for that small strip on the right. I looked for some lake level information through the MNR, but didn't see anything. I know they had a really dry fall, and not much snow. I think another factor affecting the lake levels is how much water they're letting through the dam.

I spoke with the owners of Patrica Fly-in Camps and Northumbrian Resort today. They are located on Abrams Lake and have a cabin we are to rent on Minnitaki June 15. They said that while the water is low, that the chutes are navigable and that they had gone out to their outpost cabin yesterday (May 14). They also had about 1/2 inch of rain yesterday and expect more this weekend.

I'll know what the water levels are like next week when I go up to my cabin. Based on what my neighbor told me he said 50/50 on the chutes. I know if I'm running a 120 merc., I would be a little reluctant.

I've been on Lac Seul out of Hudson.Never been on Abrams or Minnitaki. Is the chute you talk of between these two lakes? If so how does one get to Minnitaki if the water is low in the chute?

That is correct the chutes run between the two lakes. I am not sure where the launch is on Minnitaki if you cannot run the chutes.

Abrams, any update from last weekend. I head up the first weekend in June. Hopefully I will be able to run up the chutes. I always like to fish minnitaki if I can.

thanks

I'm going up to my cabin this Friday for a week. I'll know then. wink.gif

Having Minnetaki is always a nice option but there is plenty of water, including Lac Seul. I think they have had some decent rain recently, hopefully more is on the way.

Hey Guys,

Just got back from my second trip to Minnitaki this spring. The water is low but coming up. The first trip in April the water was 8-10 feet from the bottom of my boathouse ramp this last trip, May 17th, it was 2 ft away. I live in Northern Mn and we have been getting some pretty good rains lately. I have heard that the Souix Lookout area has received some pretty heavy rains as well. The last I heard was that the chute was passable but you have to be careful. My guess is that you will be fine but definitely be careful in unfamilar areas. I am heading up this weekend to do some fishing so I hope the weather gets better. I Hope that you have a good trip up north.

Thanks for the updates. I am heading up this Friday, cannot wait to wet a line. Sounds like we will be able to run the chutes. I was hoping we could. How has the fishing up there been this year? Are the eyes still in shallow? I know that it is usually great for the walleyes and smallmouth. We have been going up for 6 years now maybe this year we get that 30" eye.

Thanks for the information.
