Yet another prop question...

eelpout#1

Question

My boys had my prop rebuilt for my birthday. I hadn't taken the prop off before and now am unsure where all the parts go. I have a 2004 yamaha 90 and I think a Mercury prop. There is an insert inside the prop hub, a brass looking splined piece, a brass colored washer, the standard nut on the end and of course the cotter pin. I have it bolted together the way I think it goes....but would not like to have an unhappy experience on the water. Of course, the boys don't have an idea of how it looked when they took it apart. All my previous motors were OMC which only had the prop piece.

thanks

tc

I replaced the oil seal on a 2003 90hp and put it back together in the order you did. But i have a large star pattern ring that i forgot where it goes. Does anyone know where or have a picture of the part sequnce? I was told that my prop is a merc.

Thanks

the star patter thing you mention is one of two possible items: The first one has flaps that bend up to hold the nut in place. I believe it is usually made of brass.

The second would be a spacer that goes between the prop and the nut itself so that the nut does not go too far down so the cotter pin won't do it's job.
